OK, I had my interview a while ago, but I have been scanning through some of the acceptance threads from last year and realize the interview and what the interviewer says seem to be important factors in admission (esp. for someone like me who has average stats). I sort of shrugged off my interview, but now that I think about it, I do not think it went that well. We talked for ~120 minutes but I was very nervous and had trouble articulating why I wanted to go to Chicago...not because I did not know but because I was nervous. She kept asking me to explain further, is this a bad thing? And then she said something at the end like "Chicago is a very self-selecting school" and "for some people, Chicago can be very destructive." I made sure to emphasize that I looked forward to the workload and was prepared to fail in the process. I just kept trying to emphasize that Chicago was my first choice and I really wanted that kind of environment. Oh well, what do you think?

EDIT: I am sorry to be obsessive. Frankly, everyone else's stats on here make me want to hide in my closet and never come out! I am afraid my shaky somewhat awkward interview might be a problem. I spent a lot of time on the essays and I genuinely think they were well written...not too presumptuous and not too humble.

I've seen your stats. They make mine look like crap. Stop worrying so much.

OK, thanks, anyone else? Anything is appreciated!
bumppppp

Don't worry about it. If your essays are good, I'm sure you will be fine as UChicago puts tons of emphasis on theirs! Your interview may have been shaky/awkward but at least it wasn't negative.

That's what everyone says, but I am starting to think it might not be true, considering who they take. Oh well, keep posting! Be brutally honest!

I don't think an Alumni interviewer makes the largest significance on the admissions decision. I view it as something that can only help you. You can't be expected to click with any everyday person.

I'm sure plenty of people have very awkward interviews.

Look at it this way, at least you've had one. I haven't. And my parents' opinion is that I can visit schools AFTER they accept me.

If not having an interview does not detract from one's application (at Chicago, at least), then surely having one will only help you. Unless you unmistakably made a terrible impression on the interviewer's part, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. =)

Interviews are more to acquaint prospective applicant to the school than to evaluate the applicant. Don't worry about the interview, many are admitted without one, my S for example. He didn't even request one.

^ Thank you very much!

Anyone else? BUMP
