Write an email explaining the situation or do not mark that I already had an interview on MIT form?

The EC writes an essay to MIT, so I think you should be honest and put “already have interview.”

1 - Be honest.
2 - If you think any information is essential, then write it down in a separate paper and send it.

How bad may I ask? If the interview does not go well, it’s not the end of the world. Interview is only a part of the greater picture for your admission. If you have good essays and scores, and EC’s then it’s okay.

It’s a bad idea to mark that you didn’t have an interview because the EC will most definitely submit an interview report, so if there’s a report and you say you didn’t have an interview…hmm?

Also, I think “bad” is very relative. Don’t think about this for a few days, come back, and then reassess whether it was actually a bad interview. Generally, ECs will not purposefully draft up negative reports, and the report is unlikely to be as bad as you think it’ll be.

I advise against sending out a personal letter because your letter might make the situation more convoluted than what it really is. For example:

if your EC sends a good letter, or neutral letter
Your letter will make the situation more complex, because you will unwittingly bring out conflicts/problems that you thought didn’t go well but actually the EC didn’t mind too much.

if your EC sends out a “bad” letter
Your letter will make the situation also more complex, because then whatever the issue of contention was would be your word vs. your EC’s word, and I don’t think your portrayal of the account in this case will necessarily be any more convincing to the adcoms.

In general though, I doubt your “bad” interview will hurt you unless you had some very strange incident (like you accidentally spurted coffee onto your interviewer’s tie and the interviewer kicked you out of the room before you can explain, for example). The interview is a minor part of the application process and your file will not be completely disregarded b/c of the interview.

I had a terrible interview when I applied to Duke. My Duke interviewer was a doctor who was extremely arrogant and asked me these verbal logic puzzles during the interview that had no apparent answer because he made them ambiguous. When I started pointing out that these puzzles had no immediate solution, he started telling me that I was asking too many questions and to give him an answer. After I gave him some “answers,” he started criticizing me for not taking into account various variables (which I already pointed out to him earlier were conditions that I needed before I can give him an accurate answer). He proceeded to tell me that he doubt I would get into my safety colleges, much less Duke. The interview lasted less than 30 minutes and he had absolutely no interest in what I did in high school other than his logic puzzles.

The moral of the story is: I got into Duke regardless, so don’t be too worried about the interview.

To above poster, you can now swear at the doctor now you got in. =D

As I said, interview is just a part of the big picture. I don’t think anyone (who is able to be an interviewer which is in other words, a representative of the school) will be that immature to write negative reports. But, the above poster, proved me wrong. Likewise, many movies and TV shows portray college life as dark, and most of the main actors are all commonly:

-good at school
-thinks school is crap
-there’s always one or two that takes drugs
-many other nonsense characteristics

But really, they wouldnt exist in college. I might be wrong. D= I just don’t find it possible. Unless… after 12 years of education, they are still like kids then fine…

Sorry for getting away from topic, but interview is fine.

Oh, to above above poster, why didn’t you just say ‘I don’t know.’?

I guess that would shut him up. =D
