My interview with USC!!!

OK, so my interview was yesterdaym at 2 pm, on campus.
I thought I wasn't going to make it on time because I got stuck somewhere, so I took a $40 taxi from where I was to the campus.

So, I arrive at the (amazing) campus, asking people where is admissions. Then, I got there and there was this rather small, crouded room, with LOTS of people waiting for the interviews, all guys were wearing suits and ties, girls were wearing skirts/dresses and heels, almost everyone, exept for me.

So the room was nicely decorated for the holidays, and tons of admission officers were walking around, and so many parents who came with their kids to the interview and to hear more about the school... Well, again :) Except for my parents.

So around 5 minutes before two a nice student came and walked us to another building, and then another lady joined us and told us to give our interviewers a really hard time. So we arrive at this nice waiting room, again, holidays decorations and lots of coockies and drinks. They told us to wait till our interviewer says our name. I thought there was only one person for all of us, and we were around 14 people. There was one girl telling how she came all the way from San Diego, and everyone said "wow, you must really like USC then"... You all know what I was thinking then :)

So all the admissions reresentatives came out and each one grabbed one kid, and I stayed last with one other real nice girl. We started talking and then someone called my name. He was being very formal, shook my hand, and we went to the office. We started talking about basic school stuff that I think he has to ask, basically stuff he can see on the app. Then when I told him I had graduated in 2004, he asked what I did ever since, so I said "Isreali army". Wow, he never stopped asking about it! We talked about politics, about how I get along so well with my Palestinian friends, and how I was a part of the Disengagement. He was shocked and said that it's an historic thing and when I go to school I should tell everyone in my classes and wherever I go about "my story". Haha.. I have a story now. I had no idea.
So he was saying things like "wow, that's amazing, I can't believe it", "we never had Isreali soliders before", "I'm sorry I ask so much about it, but I'm facsinated". So the interview lasted 55 minutes instead of 20! People where coming and going and we sat for almost an hour! He told me about his Jewish friends, I told him a little bit about life in Isreal. Eventually he said, "wow, this was the most facsinating conversation I had in a long time! Definetely one of the best interviews I had". I was so happy then! He said he had writtem so many comments during the interview and that he needed extra papers for the first time. Then he walked me out, gave me his card and said I should contact him about any admissions related problem that I have, and said "I hope to see you on campus next fall, people have a lot to learn from you, I feel I learned a lot in 30 minutes". (It was more like 55 lol who cares!)... He was really sweet and nice, very easy to talk to. He also asked a lot about EC's and hobbies and academic and how I am planning to purue it in college.

He also asked if USC was my first choise... What a wierd question to ask me! LOL

Great interview. I'm sure that really helped and you'll be remembered. Be sure and send a follow-up e-mail to the person thanking him for his time.

That's really an important question for USC. I hope you said "yes." USC wants to be loved. It's on its way up academically and perhaps still a little bit unsure of itself. Many California kids are probably using it as a backup to Stanford or one of the ivy league schools. So it's important for them to be considered a first choice.

Best of luck. USC could really use a student with your kind of background.

Did you get a chance to talk to anyone in Hillel?

That's amazing!!! If you don't get into USC it will be their HUGE loss!

tsdad-
I sure did write a thank you letter :) I truely meant it, the person was extremely kind and the interview felt great, he deserved it!

When he asked me whether it was my first choise I said "absoluteley". It took me a while to process this question, I guess I forgot he didn't know me.

I didn't contact anyone at Hillel that day, but I'm on their mailing list and now because of finals and the break there's nothing going on, appearntly. I'm sure there will be something for the holidays thought, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Thank you very much for all the support and great advice!

: ) ) )

Nothing I can say but Thank You! :-)

wow!!!! congrats!

omg that must've been a fantastic interview! congratssss!

It was to me. I hope it'll have an impact on your nice dreams there dear friend LOL :) And thanks:)
