my interview

i had my interview (harvard) this morning. it was short, only 30 min. long, and very basic. my interviewer asked me what i was interested in and then asked me what kind of activites i did. i didn't come away from it feeling like he had really gotten to know me at all.

the thing is he did tell me before that it would be about 30 min. long and that the point of the interview was just to make sure i could talk and that i wasn't just some person who just shut myself in my room and studided 24/7.

i know ppl who interviewed w/ other harvard interviewers and their interviews lasted for 1 and 1/2 hours.

should i maybe request another interview or should i just assume that this is how this guy does interviews and that mine was fine?

Don't worry about it. Different interviewers have different styles. Remember, a long interview doesn't necessarily mean it was a good one; maybe your friend babbled on about the importance of community service or how much s/he loved Harvard. I think asking for another interview would be a mistake and would look unusual to the admissions committee.

I have to say, though: if someone can't learn about you after hearing you talk for a half hour, then there's probably not much to learn. Thirty minutes is more than enough time for a stranger to get a good impression of you.

I agree with corranged. IMO, you'll seem like a whiner or will seem silly if you complain to Harvard that your interview was too short. The time to complain about a college interview is if an interviewer does something very inappropriate such as makes a pass at you, shows up drunk or tells you that due to your politics, the interviewer hopes you'll be rejected.

The fact that the other students' interviews lasted longer doesn't mean that they did better or had better interviewers. The interviews may have been lengthy because the interviewer had lots of free time to kill or was an unskilled interviewer who didn't know how to say "good-bye."
