hey guys, i just had my summer on-campus interview... and since I was scrambling for reports on interviews on CC right before I went to Boston, I figured I could do my bit and write a little as to what happened in mine.

I was interviewed by a great and very interesting interviewer from Long Island, much younger than I expected and far from the wisened scholarly sage I was expecting. She was in fact, only two years out of Harvard. Before the interview you have to fill out a form that basically asks whether you intend to apply early, regular or are undecided, and asks you to list a few extra curriculars and what you are interested in studying.

During the interview we focused on purely extra-curicullars, basically a "what do you do outside of school" kinda thing. There wasn't any "quizzing" or "define yourself in three words" (thank god) just a systematic basic interview. We got a little sidetracked and got stuck on one thing cuz it was interesting and we had a mutual passion so we didn't cover much. The interview is usually kept at 30 minutes.

At the end she gave me her card and phone number and told me to call her if I had any questions as well as my admissions officers' name and email (the one in charge of my school). And that was it. No sweat, it wasn't stressful...nerveracking...anything. It was really just a laid back conversation talking about...you. There isn't anything to prepare..no studying..im pretty sure all of you are well versed in your lives. So take it easy! I hope this helped...and im not just taking up CC space. lol

LOL Most interviews are made out to be so stressful. Thanks for your story.

You got lucky............... :(

Time magazine and NY times have been my best friend lately.

LOL believe me...I probably knew everything going on in the world the week before my interview. I literally was studying BBC news

I didn't do a harvard interview but got one for another Ivy school when I app'ed early. The interview was in the cafeteria of the building he worked at and was totally laid back. He started off by asking me the standard, "What are your interests, what will you study" stuff but after 5 minutes he ditched that and we just had a normal conversation about the school, sports, anything. It was more of a chat than an interview, he was a cool guy.

LOL thats awesome...i hope i'm that lucky...but knowing my me...i'll prolly get someone in their late 80's who could keel over any minute...asking me about the applications of mathematics to the ripples of water 3 seconds after it has been infused with sodium, completely ignoring that fact that I am a psych major.....or something....

These summer interviews are for seniors in high school, right? Does it help for the admissions process at all?

they are for rising seniors and they do count towards your application. its definitely evaluative (sp?) not informational like other schools but its not meant to substitute the alumni interview

^ What makes you think so?

Well when I was scheduling the interview, the admissions person who I talked to told me it was indeed evaluative and not a purely informational thing. Plus the form we had to fill out before the interview had a little disclaimer stating something about "will be used for admissions process room placements...activities..blah blah blah"

And my interviewer was giving me tips on working with an alumni interviewer so I assume she is expecting me to get one in addition to the on campus one.

Are the interview for locals only?

nope. i live in philly

So, did you go to Ma for the interview?
