my interviewever told me this ...

when talking about admissions...

"it's all about luck. it's all about being in the right place at the right time."

i think it's somewhat true. i can't wait until the wait is over though, hah! i just want to deal with the yes or no.

good luck all!

EDIT: oh of course, it's luck and an amazing appl. haha. totally not trying to discredit anyone.

the truth.

Basically.

Once Harvard gets down to its last 8000-10000 applicants, there's very little separation and they could pick an outstanding class more or less at random.

yeah its mostly luck. People get admitted for all sorts of bizarre reasons.

just gotta make the adcom remember ur application before they remember someone elses. just one little thing can make the difference between being "normal" and "memorable"

I think as far as "right place at the right time" refers to who Harvard or any selective school is looking for. Maybe the football team needs some more linemen, or the orchestra needs a tuba. If you have good enough stats, you may get in because you fall into a category they need represented.

i just have to say: the spelling of the thread title is so made of win..

I love what he said.. could you tell me the interviewer's name because i want to put in an essay contest. That quote just tells my life

As Oprah once said: "Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity."

Well actually... haha

didn't pay attention when i was writing the title, thank god this is just a forum and not something "important" haha

My interviewer insisted that graduate school legacy counts for Harvard, and he was the president of the Harvard Club of my state--someone who would (or should) definitely know.

Discuss?

I hope it does :D

Many interviewers, including Northstarmom say only college legacies count for Harvard.

However, I also heard rumors that any kind of legacy, even professional will be taken into consideration.

i think officially college legacies are the only ones that count. but the admission officers will see that your parents went to grad and you never know if they could've influenced their decision

I hope so; my father and aunt both have Harv grad schools on their resumes. Although neither have had contact with the school for years, so I doubt it will help. Argh. :</p>
