<p>Once Harvard gets down to its last 8000-10000 applicants, there's very little separation and they could pick an outstanding class more or less at random.</p>
<p>just gotta make the adcom remember ur application before they remember someone elses. just one little thing can make the difference between being "normal" and "memorable"</p>
<p>I think as far as "right place at the right time" refers to who Harvard or any selective school is looking for. Maybe the football team needs some more linemen, or the orchestra needs a tuba. If you have good enough stats, you may get in because you fall into a category they need represented.</p>
<p>My interviewer insisted that graduate school legacy counts for Harvard, and he was the president of the Harvard Club of my state--someone who would (or should) definitely know.</p>
<p>i think officially college legacies are the only ones that count. but the admission officers will see that your parents went to grad and you never know if they could've influenced their decision</p>
<p>I hope so; my father and aunt both have Harv grad schools on their resumes. Although neither have had contact with the school for years, so I doubt it will help. Argh. :</p>
