My Ivy League Chances

I'm a junior at my local high school and I was wondering what my chances were for getting into an ivy league school. I'm personally a bad test taker and don't have good grades compared to the standard Ivy League Students and currently have a 3.09 uw GPA.

But, I've been great with my extra curricular activities such as competing at the national level for SkillsUSA, attending Intel ISEF, competing at HOSA, singing for an acapella group at my school, attending a week long program in Japan representing my school along with select students and much more. I'm also in the cross country/track team and ive been varsity since cross country season this school year.

But looking at my GPA, I'm worried that the Ivy League schools might not consider me. My SAT scores are below and what are my chances for that I can get in to an Ivy league school (preferably yale =P).

SAT math II 800
SAT Chem 780
SAT Bio 740
SAT Japanese 790
SAT I 790 math 530 Writing 520 Reading 8 Essay

Also what do you think I should do to improve my chances. I plan on taking physics in may and retaking the SAT to improve my writing and essay score in june along with taking several APs after the ones I take this year which are AP BC calc and AP music theory.

One last thing though...is that I attend a super competitive magnet school, just to show you how competitive my school is, the 790 on my SAT I math placed me in the 99th percentile for both on the national level and the state level, but I was only 64 percentile compared to last years graduating class.

Thanks in advance :)

No to the Ivies. Low sat (1840) A 3.09 (and its corresponding rank) are just too low. Too late to improve your chances.

ya i kind of gave up on the gpa but i’m retaking the SAT I again in june so hopefully that can up the SAT portion, and i was hoping for some shot with my EC but, i guess thats subjective to the admissions office

try to get at least a 650 on each the writing and reading, that will bring your chances a wholeeeee lot.

You compete in HOSA? No wayy. I do too. Unfortunately I got disqualified for a stupid reason that wasn’t stated in the guidelines. -___- but last year I won and went to nationals :)

Don’t count yourself out yet. Apply and see what happens! No one can predict what the AdComs will decide!!

People with lower scores than yours get in. And they certainly will look at the creds of your high school. Just apply and go with it :)

should really improve gpa and sat scores to consider ivies for now

there are other applicants with just as many ecs (even better) and way higher sat/gpa that get denied as well

How far did you go in ISEF? I don’t think just attending will get you anything. And, though your high school is competitive, your low SAT score suggests that even if it wasn’t that competitive you still wouldn’t be a top student. Sorry, but I don’t think you have a chance, unless you’re getting recruited for track/CC (which seems doubtful)
