I was about to say that you are forgiven, but no, I don’t see the “error in my ways”. I doubt anyone on CC scrutinizes and examines every last word of ever post.
I doubt that anyone on CC does that either, but if you don’t want to look like an ******, the polite thing to do is apologize for missing it if you asked about it in a rude way.
They do if they are going to make comments about that post. Sorry AnnieBeats, but you were in the wrong here. The OP clearly stated where the $62,000 came from, even using the commonly understood term “full-ride scholarship”. Since you made it all the way down to seeing the $62,000 it is hard to see how you missed that part. In any case, never an excuse to be rude. That includes you, @wchuck. No profanity.
Thanks for the detailed post, kitts. It will be helpful. It looks as though you have a great future!
Thanks @blprof I didn’t see why it was just a problem to clarify that. It was simple and there was no need to get an attitude.
OP, I’m gonna be the bigger person and flat out forgive you. No point in arguing with you. I didn’t fully read your post, and you didn’t fully consider how to reply. Id say that leaves us pretty even Have a nice day! :-h
@AnnieBeats, thank you! I think we can both agree to disagree on that point, and move on from here.
@OspreyCV22, thank you also! I am glad that my poring over all the details throughout my process into one story helps
Great thread. I appreciate your candor in your decision making process. Pitt and Northeastern were good alternatives had your reaches not come through.
I also got curious to find out more about the Yellow Ribbon scholarships. Here’s a link in case anyone else is interested: <a href=“404 - Page Not Found - Veterans Benefits Administration”>404 - Page Not Found - Veterans Benefits Administration;
Thanks @Picapole! I am glad this helped, and that’s the same link I used when I wasn’t sure about the Yellow Ribbon program myself!
@kitts95 I just came across your post. Northwestern is a great choice, and the full scholarship makes it an incredible opportunity. I also love the attitude that you have projected regarding your rejections.
However what stands out in your post is that you did not have the results as a URM that I am sure “everyone” assured you that you would have. I get so tired of reading uniformed posters proclaim that URMs that do not have nearly your stellar (and competitive in their own right) stats, are a shoo in for acceptance every where. With another admissions cycle approaching I think this thread is worth bumping as an informative and cautionary story.
Thank you @planner03!
I agree with you; while I do have an underrepresented minority status, it did not seem to play a very large role (and not nearly as large a role as some on this website think). All future readers of this post, especially those also with an underrepresented minority status, should realize that they cannot rest on their laurels (i.e. their ethnicity). It may work for some. but certainly not for everybody.
And by saying that, I am not implying that I am bitter about what happened to me, because the reality is quite the opposite; I am just trying to make people work to their full potential, regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, age, etc.
It would be nice to see more detailed results like this. Congratulations.
I agree with @letmeseetheworld. We definitely need results like this. I remember I used to scour old decision threads and even my own university’s decision threads looking for an ounce of hope. Aren’t you just glad that college admissions are over for us? And for all the upcoming seniors out there, good luck!
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the positive feedback, and to be honest, I enjoyed writing this post (or story, whatever you want to call it)! It was nice to get all the feelings I had not told anybody over the last year out.
I thought I would bump this so that prospective students would be able to use my experiences. Hope it helps!
@kitts95 I am just beginning the process with my son who is a junior so this thread is very helpful and eye-opening. Thanks and good luck to you at Northwestern.
Interesting thread. Thank you @kitts95 . Has NU lived up to your expectations?
@MidwestDad3 I would say so! It’s been very challenging for me but I think the experience has been rewarding overall. I am busier than I ever thought was possible, and I love it! Also, I’ve met a bunch of really cool people here. I would recommend everyone applies if they are at all interested!
Thanks for the update @kitts95 and congrats on a rewarding year. I have a high regard for NU (family member is an alum) and I’m glad it has been a great experience for you. You worked hard to attain it. Go Wildcats!
