My junior year: Not taking a science class?

If I dont take a science class my junior year, would this be looked down upon? My councelor tells me I should take it but I know a couple of students who didnt take a science at all their Junior year and got into top schools.

I have already finished 4 sciences before my junior year: (graduation req. is 3)
AP enivronmental science
Honors physics
Honors chemistry
Honors Biology

I also plan on taking either AP bio + AP physicsB or Ap bio + H anatomy my senior year.

My current schedule seems difficult enough and adding a science might just kill me...

take 1 AP science next year in the same science subject that was easiest for you in Honors. And then take only 1 additional AP science your Sr year. You will need extra time during the first semester of Sr year to get your college essays written and polished, get your apps done and submitted, get letters of recommendations written by your teachers, and possibly take the SAT or subject tests. All of these things take a lot of time and can make the first part of your Sr year very stressfull. Adding 2 AP science classes is likely to have a negative impact on your grades, and that you dont want to do.
But dont NOT take a science class your JR year. that will doom your apps at highly selective top colleges.

listen to your counselor.

I agree with the user above. What is the point of taking none junior year then 2 senior year. Your schedule does seem rigorous but I think the best thing to do would be to add either ap physics b or ap bio junior year then the other senior. I know it would be a very tough junior year but really what is the point of taking 2 senior year and none junior year. Also for college it would be good to already have your ap exam score to send in.

Why not take H Anatomy junior year then 1/2 AP’s senior year, or as everyone else said, 1 AP junior year (Bio is pretty easy)?

^—I have 5 AP’s in school, 2 AP’s online, 3 honors, and 1 college class next year…dropping one of the honors for H anatomy might work.

WHY are you taking AP’s online? That is completely unnecessary! 5 AP’s during your Jr year is MORE than enough. Colleges dont award students with acceptance letters based on who took the most AP’s! And even with all those AP and Honors classes, you haven’t got a science class scheduled??? That schedule really needs revision. I suggest you drop the online classes and take one of the AP science classes your HS offers. Waiting 1 year after taking intro level science classes to finally take an AP level science class is a mistake. You will probably forget a lot of basic background information that the AP class is based on, and then will really have to push hard to catch up with the rest of the class, while also having to write and submit your college applications! That is a formula for not so good grades the first semester of your SR year!!

^ True that.

Im not trying to take the “most” AP’s…

I mean there are students who go to my school who take 7 AP’s their sophomore year…

But yeah, I will just drop one of my “joke” honors classes for honors anatomy.

so…anyone else have any thoughts?

It seems like you already came up with a decision. I mean, personally, I wouldn’t try to take ALL possible AP sciences or sciences that are available. I wouldn’t want to take AP Environmental Science if my desired career has nothing to do with the environment. Stick to the ones that you need credit for.

How the heck do you have 11 classes (7 of which are APs) and not a single science class? I find that pretty ridiculous. I think top schools would rather you take less classes and have your schedule be more balanced. 1 AP English class, 1 AP History/Social Science class, 1 AP Science, 1 AP Math, then maybe an elective or foreign language. If you’re really focused on Math/Science you can add another AP for that, same goes if you’re really focused on Humanities, but anything more is completely unnecessary. What does your schedule actually look like? I’m curious.

I’m not taking a Science class junior year, but then again, I only have 5 slots. With 11 classes in one year, yes, I think it would be ideal to include at least one Science class. But I know you’ve already asked this question a few times before, whether it was on this account or your other(s), so you’re obviously not planning on changing your schedule… really though, it’s just high school, take whatever the hell you want.

ok time to clear things up: Ill just put my schedule down

Fall: AP calc AB, Ap Psych, APush, H sociology
Spring: AP calc BC, AP comp. gov, H english, H programming, Political Science (college)
Yearlong online: AP world and AP human geo

H sociology, H programming are total joke classes according to students who have already taken it. I could drop programming and take H anatomy, however this is considered the hardest Honors class in the school. (A college textbook is used. People consider it Honors credit for an Ap level class).

I really dont want to drop an Ap class for an AP science class since the only choices I have are AP bio (the teacher sucks), and AP physics (teacher is good, but lots of students end up with B’s)

Yes.

Then, don’t worry about it. Some things are looked down upon, but if you don’t want to do them, don’t. Make up for it by doing well in the classes you want to take and the activities in which you want to participate. Not everyone can be everything.

EDIT: It is looked down upon if one does not take four or more years of a language. I didn’t like Spanish, so I stopped and took an extra science and an extra math class junior year, and colleges really didn’t mind that I didn’t take as many foreign language classes as my competition, because of my other classes and some other things.

Do you really need 4 Social Studies classes? Are you genuinely interested in Human Geography and World History? I would do either APUSH + AP Gov or AP World + AP Gov and drop the other two. Drop Honors Programming unless you really want to learn programming, which it seems like you don’t, and add either AP Bio or Honors Anatomy. Could you possibly take the College Political Science class as a senior when you have more room? Same goes with Sociology.

I think I will just drop the political science class and H programming for H anatomy.

I realized that my 2nd semester will kill me since I would have 4 classes in school, 2 online, and 1 at a college.

To everyone who commented: Thanks for the advice!

Can I tag along on this? I wasn’t planning to take an actual science class junior year, I have AP Comp Science and AP Psych on my schedule for the upcoming school year. However, I already took AP Bio and AP Chem last year and AP Environmental freshman year. I plan to take AP physics senior year. Thoughts?

^^ you’re fine…
