I wanted to post this because I’m very worried. I was deferred at Northeastern, and this makes me much more nervous for BU. Here’s my info:
Grades and rank: 96 uw, 106 w, and ranked 6/400 as of the start of my senior year. The classes I’m taking this year are all honors and AP, including scores: APUSH(5), AP Euro(5), AP World(4), AP Lit(3), AP Bio(3).

Senior Schedule- Includes all honors and 3 AP’s(Macro, Lang, and Calc AB)

Test Score: ACT-28(29 Superscored)

Extra Curriculars, Volunteer, and Awards: JV Baseball two years, one year on varsity(hopefully two), symphonic orchestra since 4th grade(first chair viola), treasurer of Symphonic Orchestra, former Vice President of Intel Science Club and created a project for Long Island’s competition, NHS member(going to run for officer), Foreign Language Honor Society, School Tour Guide, over 100 hours of Volunteer Service(with various groups), and helped create a book for Armed Service members that gets circulated to veterans and current soldiers. I have won 3 awards at my school for excellence in English, Italian, and Pre Calculus. Also received AP scholar with honors.

I applied to CAS for International Relations.

This makes me nervous too cause I have a little lower act score…Idk why they deferred you but I think you’re fine for BU. I think they looked at your application on a bad day and you didn’t happen to be what they needed. Like maybe ur app was next to the kid from africa with a 2300 and has cured cancer and u got unlucky lol

Idts…what sucks is that it depends on the day the admissions counselors are having and u had bad luck. Ur act score is strong as their avg accepted scores are 26-9 and everything else is good

I think you’re good! And as for Northeastern- they deferred just about EVERYONE. Seriously, when i went on my college visit there, I was todl that the middle 50% of students have a WEIGHTED 3.7-3.9 GPA which you’ve beyond surpassed. Out of the 12 from my small, Catholic school, they only accepted 1 EA- the girl ranked top in my class. I know someone else in the top 5% of her class of 356 students, also deferred.

You should definitely get into BU! Best of luck!

Thanks! I hope I’m alright because I would love to go. That deferral has made me nervous. I have visited, went to an admissions session in my neighborhood, and kept my stats in line. I don’t know what more I can do!

I can’t believe northeastern defers!!! I hear heard that they like give you extra points toward ur gpa for ap grades and as!? I feel like it got harder all of a sudden to get in or something

hey andybatts, I see you here again! lol I just wanted to tell you that northeastern just LOVES to defer everyone -_- this kid in my school who is WICKED smart and has awesome ECs. He’s 1%of the graduating class and got accepted to Tufts for ED I think.

I wouldn’t worry over a deferral. I think schools decide beforehand about how many (or a max) students they want to admit EA/ED. If they have a great bunch of applicants, some really good ones are going to be deferred. Some get rejected, you know. I’ve been seeing people with pretty good credentials on paper getting deferred from UMass. Harvard deferred 70% and rejected 12%, and a good number of those accepted were athletes. Anyway, worrying doesn’t help.

You sound like you were considering Northeastern to be a safety choice for BU. That may have been the case 20 years ago but not today. Northeastern’s mid-50% ACT scores for admitted students last year were 29-32. That puts you at or below the 25th percentile for admitted students. It should not be surprising that you were deferred there.

You have a good chance of being admitted RD to both schools, or at least to BU.
