My last SAT questions before exam :D

Hi guys I was solving real SAT exams and I always get 3 wrong !!!!!

Anyway here are my questions.

18)If 0 <= x <= y and (x + y)^2 - (x - y)^2 >= 25,what is the least possible value of y?

I tried to solve it like this -->

x^2 + 2xy + y^2 - x^2 -2xy + y^2 >= 25;

4xy >= 25;
xy >= 25/4

But then I couldn't solve more why ? because there many values smaller for y since he never said integers !!!

Answer is 5/2 or 2.5.

9)The interior dimensions of a rectangular fish tank are 4 feet long,3 feet wide,2 feet high. THe water level in the tank is 1 foot high. All of the water in this tank is poured into an empty second tank. If the interior dimensions of the second tank are 3 feet long,2 feet wide, 4 feet high, what is the height of the water in the second tank??

1)0.5 FT
2)1 FT
3)1.5 FT
4)2 FT
5)4 FT

Answer is D.

You need image for this one and I uploaded it on imageshack.

16)In the figure above AC = 6 and BC = 3. Point P (not shown) lies on AB between A and B such that CP is perpendicular to AB. Which of the following could be the length of CP?
1)2
2)4
3)5
4)7
5)8

Answer is A.

This question is from other test I had yesterday but I forgot to ask for explanation how to solve it.

You need image and here its one I did on mspaint.

5)In the figure above,square RSTU is inscribed in the circle. What is the degree measure of arc ST??

1)45
2)60
3)90
4)120
5)180

Its 60 I don't understand how can you solve this one ?? Your not given any information about circle or square!?

For #4, if you draw a line directly down from Point B, the intersection at AC will be Point P. You have now created a right triangle with a hypotenuse BC = 3. Since the hypotenuse is the largest side of a right triangle, the answer has to be smaller. So the answer is Choice 1 (2).

For #5, Since each arc is proportional to the equal sides of the square, you know that each arc segment is equal. So arc ST = 25% of the circle. A circle has 360 degrees, so (360)(.25) = 90.

The answer is 90, not 60.

18)If 0 <= x <= y and (x + y)^2 - (x - y)^2 >= 25,what is the least possible value of y?

(x+y)²-(x-y)² ≥ 25
[(x+y)+(x-y)]*[(x+y)-(x-y)] ≥ 25
(2x) * (2x) ≥ 25
4x² ≥ 25
x² ≥ 25/4
x ≥ 5/2
and your equation of xy≥ 25/4

We know x=y therefore y=5/2… I think there might be an easier solution… haha

Volume of water in the first tank : 4ft3ft1ft = 12 cubic ft

Volume of water in the first tank must equal the volume of water in the second tank.

12 cubic ft = 3* 2* x

12/6 = x = 2

I think leonz132 explained the other two concisely…

Thanks alot guys for answers

@leonz132 though the answer is B its not C I have answered C too but I was shocked to find the answer is B. Maybe they did write this question answer wrong ?? This is test released by collegeboard btw.

Answer to 5 has to be 90. Double check to make sure you didn’t make a mistake typing the question.

^Edit your correct its my mistake I mistook the answer of answer question.

Never mind question 5 I mistook the question number lol must have been solving alot of exam that I am starting to lose focus :smiley: .

I have the same QAS and the answer key is correct.

It’s number 8 in the 20 question section.

@JefferyJung yeh your correct it is number 8 my mind kinda mixed number 5 with number 8 when solving it I corrected as number 5. Don’t know why my mind did that must be lagging or something :D.
