OK. I know a man who got rejected from all UCs including UC Riverside. 2000+SAT and physics major Then he appealed. He finally got in Davis. Now I am anxious. I am on the waitlist and still did not hear from Davis. I am also physics major. I think he maybe takes my place. Do you think it is possible that Davis takes the rejected student but rejects the waitlsted students? I know CCSF will be my final place!

Hey Myomoo, donāt worry too much about whether or not that other student got in through appeal because I donāt feel as if it hurt your chances of getting in through the waitlist. The thing is, none of us here on the board can tell you whether or not you will get in through the waitlist. Itās just one of those things you have to flow with and hope for the best.

Going to a CC and transferring/graduating is also a viable and smart choice as well.

I hope for the best on your waitlist process and I do sincerely hope that you get into Davis off the waitlist. And donāt sweat about it too much man, make the most with the cards that youāre dealt. Remember, not getting what you want can sometimes be a stroke of good luck. Good luck man! I hope you get in! And if not, just keep your chin up, I know the world has much to offer you whether or not you get into the college of your choice.

Thanks. I got rejected from all colleges I applied. Davis is my final hope. So I may be too much anxious!

didnāt you mention in prior threads that you did NOT fulfill all of the vpa requirements? if so, then iām surprised that you werenāt simply outright denied admission to davis in the first place. how did you even get on the waitlist?

another way of thinking about this is that perhaps YOUāas a waitlisted applicantāare ātaking the placeā of someone who was outright denied (yet who did everything they were asked to do for admissions purposes, which includes fulfilling ALL of the a-g requirements).

I think my stats are definately strong. You can see my thread to know my stats, though. I got deferred by MIT and waitlisted by CMU (MCS, got a wait list letter of recommendation from the admission officer)

Myomoo just didnāt know High school in USA meant 9 thru 12 grades. Hence he only submitted 10 thru 12 grade transcripts. The (missing) courses UC expect are on his 9th grade transcripts which he has since submitted to the UCs. He seems quite qualified although his English needs a lot of work. I have seen many Graduate level student come to US Grad schools from China with very little English and succeed.

Zero College counseling is one main reason he is faced with this predicament.

Best Wishes MyoMoo!!! I am rooting for you

@cahsparent

Thank you. Wherever I end up with, I will very appreciate you help. I hope I may see you in the Silicon Valley in the future. I think my English is very bad, but OK to study physics maybeā¦ :):)

You are extremely qualified; your english is probably the only thing holding you back - but that will improve with time as you become more familiar with the language and the USA.

Iām from the silicon valley too, by the way unfortunately there is nothing more we can do aside from patiently wait. Difficult, isnāt it!? :(

I am sure that even if you do end up ultimately going to CCSF, you will be able to transfer after 2 years. (With your intelligence and increased familiarity with the English language, you should not have difficulties the second time around!)

I wish you luck :)

Thank you GamerAddict. Hope we will see each other in UC Davis.

MYOMOO, someone in my neighborhood went to De Anza College and he just got admitted into Stanford for Fall 2012! Very rare but possible.

Many of my sonās friends are going to community colleges for 2 years to save money. One of them got almost 2300 in SAT but didnāt get into the higher UCs, so he is going to a community college and then try again in two years. You can do the same if you donāt hear from Davis.

If you are an immigrant who is going to stay here permanently, improving your English is extremely important. To improve pronunciation, I recommend that you watch American movies and turn on the English subtitles, then pause and repeat what the actor/actress is saying until you get the pronunciation correct.

I agree with the others aboveāif you donāt make it into Davis, go to a community college. Seriously, best decision I ever made. Not only will you have the opportunity to increase your chances of acceptance to the UCs of your choice, youāll also save at least $20,000+ in tuition costs.

Transfer student acceptance rates at the UCs are higher than freshman acceptance rates (simply because they have fewer applicants). So, if Davis isnāt your first choice, you may have a shot at another school after two years in community college. Believe me, itās totally worth it! Iām graduating from Davis next month 100% student debt free because I went to CC! :)

Thank you guys. Your responses are really helpful! Especially osuise, I now have some hope to get into better college where transferring. This summer I may help a professor set up some equipment. Do you guys think that is an internship and will boost my chance to a prestigious college? Thank you!

Of course internships will help you! Be as well-rounded as you possibly can be, colleges love that.

Like everyone else has said, community colleges can help you out a lot. Iām not going to say classes are easier, because I havenāt been to a UC yet and it differs from professor to professor, but itāll definitely save you money, and you can speak to professors as well, so if you ever need letters of recommendation you have 'em. Make sure to join the honors program, at whatever community college you choose, because they sometimes help you find internships and give you events/news before other students hear about it. Plus, honors classes look great on your transcript.

Good luck & remain positive; youāll be fine, because thereās always a solution to things. :)

@Stressy

Yes. They invited me to participate the honor program. I am eligible because I exceed SAT 1650 (2020 single sitting). They told me see an instrutor when the semester staets. I look forword to participating the honor program and interning in a national lab (Fermi lab or Lawrence lab) during my CCSF life!!!

OP, Have you tried contacting UC Davis to indicate your continued interest? Sorry if I missed your earlier posts.

Rejected by UC Davis. LOL :):):)

CCSF, I will spend two (maybe three) year of my young life here!! :(

Donāt feel so bad. I took Calculus I in CCSF instead of AP Calculus AB in my school and I enjoyed the class and the professor (I took the AP Calculus BC exam last week, and Iām going to UC Santa Cruz). Just be sure to register early, classes get quite full but later people drop out. If you talk to professors alot, youāll get many opportunities and advice. Just donāt limit yourself!

@Techhexium

Thanks. I sent a professor an email about my differeitial equation paper and he told me that it is VERY interesting and want to review it this summer. I am also applying an internship in a lab in CCSF. I hope they will accept!

Wow, good luck then! And thanks for the PM!
