I'm currently in my 1st year community college and I have a 4.0. Big deal though, in my eyes I'm a lousy human being because I'll never be seen as smart as an Ivy League student. I want to get into investment banking and the only people who get those jobs are Ivy League students. Now, I went to community college for financial reasons and because I was more focused on making money in high school than doing good in school. I have the grades to get into a good private college, but I can't go to any private college because I can't afford it. Therefore, I would have to settle with a NY public school. So when banks look at my resume when I graduate, they are going to laugh and throw it in the garbage because most of the resumes are Ivy League graduates and I'm just going to be a pathetic public school graduate.

What are my chances of succeeding in finance without an Ivy League education? Should I just drop out of college now to save the disappointment of never getting hired?

Wow you have some major issues. No offence, but the majority of the population will never step foot in an Ivy League institution. Does that mean they can’t be successful? NO. An Ivy degree only helps so much. It may help get your foot in the door, but it’s not the ONLY way to get your foot in the door. If you go to a good public school, get great grades, do internships and gain experience, you will be just fine. Any one can be successful if they have the motivation and drive to get themselves where they want to be. The same way having an Ivy League degree does not automatically guarantee you success. Success is up to YOU, when it comes down to it. I’ve never understood the obsession with the Ivy League. They are great schools, but they are not the ONLY great schools. Get a grip and come back down to reality!

Oh and I would like to add: that attitude that you have now will not do you any favors. You’ll never get where you want to be with a negative attitude like that. Start thinking positively about yourself and start thinking that you can do what you set your mind to! Do you want to try to be successful, or would you rather sit and mope about how you can’t do it. Because if you’d rather sit and whine about how you CAN’T do things, you will be guaranteed failure, and you’ll only have yourself to blame. Think positive and act positive.
