hey, i am a junior high school student, 17, asian male.
i want to major in Hotel/Business Administration, and am really interested in the hospitality industry
after reading the posts on CC, i dont think i have any chance of going to good or ok schools :(
here are my stats:
GPA: 3.63/4.6
SAT: 1750
Some clubs, and community service
Some work experience

what schools do you think i can go to? which ones are safe, which ones are match and reach?

It's definitely not screwed. Youre a minority, thats a big plus for some college especially at state schools like the University of Georgia(where Im going; Im also asian). Work hard your senior year to bring up ur gpa to a 3.8-3.9, take as many rigorous classes as possible(this is very important and itll be ok to get Bs). Take a Sat class or Act class during the summer and work hard in them, then take the Sat early fall so you could apply early decisions to colleges. Good Luck!

buddy. you have a 3.6 which is in itself good. You will have many choices b/w good business programs.

I suggest you retake the SAT. What is you m/v/w scores. it is fairly simple to increase your math score, atleast in my experience, as long as you are dedicated.

you did sign up for APs this year right because you have a 3.63 UW and a 4.6 W?? Do you have the regular grading system because that would be straight honors and AP classes.

im not taking any APs, i heard they will count the students who did not take any AP courses in Highschool out first... is that true? should i go to my counselor tomorrow to see if i can make changes to my next year's schedule?(i think im only qualify to take "ap chem" tho)

chill out. apply to a number of public schools that have hotel management programs, continue to work hard, and have a beer or something. You high school seniors and juniors are exhaustingly stressed about getting into the school that "ranks" the highest. Why does US News and World Report have such an influence? Think strategically about WHERE you want to work after school, and use that as a factor in your decision. Studying hotel management in CA might not do much for you if you're from MI and hope to return after college.

You'll get into college, and you'll do just fine. I don't understand how you can think that your life is screwed at 17.

You are ABSOLUTELY not screwed in ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM. OK? If you have 3 arrest warrants outstanding, a manslaughter charge pending against you, live in the east Los Angeles or South Bronx, have a 1.9 and less than 1000 (NEW SCALE) SAT, don't have a single cent in your name, have parents who are cocaine addicts, and have no job, THEN AND ONLY THEN are you screwed.

Isn't Cornell well reputed for hotel management? And I think ASU (AZ State University) has a pretty well-reputed business program which rivals Georgetown's (someone from my school who has a 2.8 got accepted...you can too), and believe it or not, MI State is pretty good for business.

OK, your life is NOT over because you can't get into Wharton. Your life is NOT over because you can't get into an ivy. Your life is NOT over because you can't get into the University of Michigan (speaking of which, YOU'RE INSTATE, you're delusional if you don't consider them. Their business program is excellent). If you have to settle for Michigan State instead of Wharton, so be it. Get a 4.0 at MI State, then transfer to Brown. Goldman Sachs recruits heavily there.

Yeah...I second uwben about the going back to MI with a hotel management degree being a bad idea...it's not really a tourist destination. I think you should look at bigger cities (like NYC, DC, Philly, LA, etc) for a job.

Apply to University of Hawaii Hotel Managemnet. You have the stats to get in and the major is really strong (its Hawaii, think about it!) University of Denver also has a hotel management degree and you couls get in but its a really expensive school. Hawaii is very very low tuition compared to other school and hotel management is a really good major there. There's tons of 5 star resorts in hawaii looking for employees. They tend to favor Hawaii graduates too.
