I have been posting for the past couple of weeks and I have FINALLY made my list.
I am a first year actress at DePaul and there is a strong cut program so I am re-auditioning to schools for next year just in case I get cut. Last year I only auditioned to 3 schools because I wasn't sure about what I wanted to be, but now I am positive that I want to be an actress. I am doing well in college and will have a high GPA here and I am not too worried about the academic factor for acceptance since I got into NYU for arts and science last year, and NYU is probably the hardest academically on my list.

Audition schools
Juilliard
NC Arts
Rutgers
Fordham
U Arts
Roosevelt

Video Auditions
U of Arizona
NYU

BA
Indiana
Columbia - last resort (a lot of cutties go there)

I also like Hartt but I don't know where I can fit it in, I don't want more than 6 auditions...

And finally I love BU but I didn't get accepted last year (bad audition) and I am not sure if I should give up any of the schools on my list for it because it is really hard to get into and I want a variety of schools (like really really really hard and just hard), but I do really love the program but am kinda afraid, so should I fit it in?

Any suggestions, do you think it is logical (I know there are a lot of great and really schools on here but I have already made it into a hard program), any comments? I overthink everything, but I want to be prepared! Thanks everyone!

Don't know anything about acting in general, but since my S goes to Juilliard (music), I do know they also have a cut program. I don't know how many others on your list do that as well. Seems brutal to me, but what do I know? I assume if you get in to Juilliard, you get into the freshmen class. How many times are you willing to go back to start?
Don't mean to discourage you -- I believe in going for your dreams! Just something to think about.

Thanks, do you know if it is a formal cut (like they have to cut a certain number a year) or if it is just a "if you don't work hard, we don't want you here" thing...the info about the program led me to believe it was a class of 20 through the years, but I could be wrong, thanks again

ckp, I'm kind of curious as to why you're using a video for your audition to Tisch. My D is a junior there and I don't think she's met anyone there who got in with a video audition. My thinking is that they very much prefer that you audition for them live. Seeing as you are in Chicago and Tisch does do regional auditions there, I'm sure they'll wonder why you didn't make the effort to schedule one with them. Not only that but you appear to be auditioning for Juilliard, Fordham, and Rutgers in person, so I don't see that as being in your favor in how it will appear to the NYU people. Just something to think about.

I know they would definatly question why I didn't do it live and that will count against me, but it really just a way for me to do more auditions because I don't want to have more than 6 in 3 days. No offense against the program at NYU, but for some reason it never really gave me that feeling that some of the other schools have. I have no idea why (maybe it is because it is such a tough program to get into and people make a HUGE deal about it and I already have a few scary intimadating programs on the list). Thanks for your imput and the list isn't final yet, but honestly NYU was kinda put on as an after thought, again, I don't know why, it is a great school!

How are you going to get out of class to do three days of auditions without your faculty and classmates finding out about what you're doing? Are you doing your live auditions somewhere besides Chicago on non-crew weekends? I'm assuming you realize that the Chicago Unifieds take place Monday through Wednesday. Just curious. I'm hoping to transfer myself and I'm closer to Chicago, but I'm praying I can get away and fly to the Saturday and Sunday New York Unifieds for mine. I'm also going to have to play dodge-the-faculty from my school when I'm there. (Scary) I'm planning to audition for Juilliard, NCSA, Purchase, and CalArts if I can make it work out. If it doesn't, I might end up only auditioning for NCSA on one of their many weekend sessions and try to get out to Purchase though that's getting to be monstrously expensive airfare-wise.

I'm going to tell the truth about where I'm going. I have theatre classes on mon and weds, so I will miss 2 days of class which is sad (cause the classes are amazing) but I think the faculty will understand. There are past students that have auditioned and still made it, and there are other freshman doing the same thing. When you cut so many people, you have to realize some are going to take precautions. I guess our situations are different though because I love my program and can be completly honest with my teachers about my feelings because I will go back if I don't get cut. Best of luck to you, if you do end up in the chi-town uni's, maybe I'll see ya!

hmmmm Ithaca. I serisously considered Ithaca last year but when I went to visit is was just so small. It was by far the most breathtaking area for a school, but I'm from a small University town in WI and it reminded me SO much of that atmostphere and I was dead-set against anything like that last year. But I'm changing.

I really thought that I needed a big school in order to be happy there, but now that I'm here I realized that I don't like hanging out with the people outside the theatre dept of 300 people! (All the rest are very into greek life and rich and kinda mean). So although I would miss being in a big city a lot, I may have to add Ithaca, if anything to my list of BA's, it has a great program and I think I ould get over living on top of a mountain!

Well, I know I read something on-line about Juilliard's cut program at one time, but I can't find any evidence of it at all now. And I think they used to accept more students, so perhaps they've completely changed the program.

I did find where it says it is mandatory for Juilliard drama students to spend 4 years there to get a degree, so transfers start as freshmen.

I'm also applying to Fordham but I live in California so I don't think I can make their auditions. Their audition date is the same as the unifeds and there is no way I could spend a day in New York, and fly back to audition for more schools. Should I send in a video audition? And does Fordham look down on that type of auditioning? Also, what are your safety schools?
