... and that's it! I'm a junior... I really need help! My top choice is Goucher but I'm not sure I'll get in.

GPA: avg. A-/B+
SAT I: 1270 but will take again
Also: I take a few college-level (dual enrollment) classes... don't know if that helps my chances or not.

I'm looking for a small LAC between N. Carolina and Vermont on the East Coast, or Midwest (but not too far west). What are Goucher's common cross-application schools?

As I recall you don’t need FA and are interested in gay friendly schools. Look at Denison in the midwest. What are you interested in as your major?

According to The Fiske Guide, the colleges whose applicants most often also apply to Goucher are Skidmore, American, Mount Holyoke, Muhlenberg, Hampshire, University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

How about Earlham (OH), College of Wooster (OH), Beloit (WI), St. Olaf (MN), Wheaton (MA), Colby (MN), Dickenson ¶. If you are female, Smith and Mt. Holyoke (MA) might be of interest, too?

What state do you live in? Depending on the state you may have some small LAC-like in-state (state school) options.

You may also want to look at “Colleges that Change Lives.” I believe it lists quite a few small LACs that may not be as academically competitive.

I don’t know anything about appropriate schools, but the College Board School Search is a great place to start. It can give you a list of schools to research further. [College Search - Find colleges and universities by major, location, type, more.](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

When I ran it for you for safeties (since you specifically mentioned you need more of those), choosing size, location (very generously - you’ll want to pick state-by-state instead of regions), admitting > 75%, 75% have B average or better in high school, I got 159 schools. Many of those will clearly be too big for you, or in the wrong place, so you will be able to narrow down a list to begin research pretty easily.

Have you tried using CC’s new college search engine? ([College Search - College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_search/)) In less than 5 minutes it generated a list of well over 80 schools matching the following criteria: Northeast or Mid-West, small (0 - 7,000 students), private with greater than 66% of applicants accepted. Notable, to me anyway:

Merrimack College (MA)
Champlain College (VT)
Alfred University (NY)
St. Michael’s College (VT)
Rider University (NJ)
John Carroll (OH)
Knox College (IL)

I suggest jumping over there and entering in your detailed criteria and seeing what results it generates for you.
