rogracer - Just because UF is an instate school doesn't mean it's cheap or a good match. I'm attending college in south Florida, so I'm quite familiar with bright futures, which in Ben's case (due to his GPA) is only going to offer him 75% coverage, and that's only 75% of his tuition and fees, not room and board. Since you've already pointed out, the majority of UFs students are highly qualified and competitive applicants, meaning he probably won't get a ton, if any, merit aid (he'll be left with a remainder of about 4,000 in tuition after 4 years, 24,000 in room and board, etc, which is about equal to the average indebtedness of students following four years from the institutions he's applying to (based off calculations from princetonreview.com compared to statistics from collegeboard.com, so they're pretty rough guesses)). Also, simply because the students who attend UF are bright and could have easily gone to better schools, doesn't mean the quality of education or the strength of individual programs follows suit. UF is very involved with research, and a great many of the undergrad classes are taught by T.A.s, and not professors. I dont know how the schools hes applying to fare comparatively, but thats a huge turn-off for a lot of students.

UF, while offering a very promising science and honors curriculum, amongst some other solid departments that I'm less familiar with (I'm an education major, so I really didn't look too heavily into their business program, for example), is not notoriously strong for it's political science program, nor is it located in a political center (like Boston or DC) that would afford him with the internship and job placement opportunities to start paying off those post-graduation student loans (which he will have to take out regardless of whether or not he goes to a school here or out of state). It would probably be less expensive in the long run, but what he would be saving wouldn't be much to make a difference.

Besides, since he's already applying to 8 or 9 schools, why bother spending the extra time and application fees on some place he'd really rather not go?

My EFC ~$1,500 lol. We own NOTHING.

Anyway, I'm not going anywhere but the east coast, I used to live in CA, and have no desire to live in the midwest. As for more safeties, I can't really find anything other than American and Catholic that match what I want and have lower acceptance requirements. I appreciate your input though Shoshie!

Thanks,

Ben

i dont think people know too much about wake forest...their acceptance % is pretty high, and if you have in their avg i dont see why grades are an issue.

People forget what the average is. There are people above and below it. If you have in the average they want to admit you, because it could only bring up their lower numbers and therefore bring up their average, making them more competative.

Duff, dont worry about some of these guys like A2K.

Message to A2K, listen buddy, if the guy wants to know his chances a billion times over LET HIM, thats why we are here. Just dont respond if it annoys you. Its as simple as that. But dont tell him he cant do what this site is dedicated to letting people do.

Im nervous too bro. Ya we have alot of the same schools man, maybe we will see eachother somewhere freshman year.

Who is A2K?

And I don't see why someone who posts the same thread 6 times should still be doing it, when it buries threads of people who are just getting advice for their first time.

And i've got a message to you Doogie - if you don't like what I say, don't respond. I'm sorry if I have an opinion that isn't what some people want to hear.

A2Wolves, I am with you. DOogie is starting to get on my nerves. On his threads, if someone gives a response that he doesnt like, he attacks them and says they do not know what they talk about. He aks for help, and then dismisses the adivce that people give him. Doogie, I am getting sick of you. Damn conservatives.

wow, this is getting productive

Well, doogie, I appreciate your support, hopefully we will find the schools that are right for us.

just had to say it btw...u gotta love the population that traces everything back to politics. Also gotta love those who still cant deal with the fact that Gore and Kerry lost and who take their anger and denial out on conservatives (which im not btw, nor am i liberal for that matter).

Besides, my political affiliation has nothing to do with any of this. I just think people need to answer duffmans questions instead of telling him to stop posting. You should know applying is very stressful, so dont make it even harder.

And ya btw, the part about me not accepting what people say if i dont like it. True to an extent. I dont accept what you have to say if it has no validity, which the particular post you are refering to didnt.

Look back in my posts, go ahead. I usually take suggestions and advice with pleasure, I like hearing what people have to say concerning my posts. However, if someone has an "out there", way off, unjustified response, then yea, you bet im gonna have something to say. Why shouldnt i reject those? Its only putting false ideas and notions into readers' heads. Those off comments arent helping anyone.

LOL trying to bring in politics in here and you can't even vote.

Why answer questions that have already been answered 50 times? Doesn't he get the point?

And my posts only have no validity to you... again, like your opinion counts to me.

Alright guys, don't get into arguing. Anyway, does anyone else have any insight as to my chances, or something akin to it? Hehe

Thanks!

~Ben

No Duffman, do not worry, I like arguing, and I am damn good at it. As for Doogie, first, Bush did not beat Gore in the 2000 election, infact Bush lost to Al Gore by half a million votes (I hate the electoral college)....of course this is irrelevant. And if you ask for people's feedback and advice, it is rude to reject it and dismiss what they have to say. It doesn;t matter if you think it is invalid, they took the time to at least attempt to help you, and I would be indeed offended if you just rejected what I had to say and told people to ignore me. I think others would agree on this, actually they already have. So in conclusion, Doogie is rude and President Bush sucks. The End.

aha wow, that was by far some of the most meaningless rambling i have ever seen.

In the words of Billy Madison: What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

And btw, your buddy Greenday brought in politics...not me.

Hes a disgruntled liberal...which is actually repetative.

Um, how is exactly is it meaningless. Because it puts in you in a negative light. That would make it insulting, not meaningless...get a dictionary. And I made valid points, I said that you were rude to dismiss people viewpoints who were trying to help you. I also stated a fact, which was that Gore got more votes than Bush in the 2000 election. You are sad. P.S. Wow your quotation from Billy Madison was really poignant....(sarcasm)

My buddy greenday? I AM GREENDAYFAN, what are you talking about?. And also, I never said that you brought up politics, did I?!!!!! No, I did not. keep in mind, if you make weak arguments, I will pounce on you and make you look foolish. And at least liberals are not old fahsioned, bible thumping fools who are afraid of change and want to limit constitutional rights. At least I am not a minion of W!

Wow you guys are killing the point of this thread, if Duffman wants to make chances threads he can, don't respond to them.

i agree with willmington. people like GREENDAY and A2 dont belong on these threads if all they are going to do is criticize and state how many times you are allowed to post something. This matter is closed, i will not respond to any more trivial posts by A2 or Greenday if they have nothing to do with duffs OP

I venture to guess that you will not respond to my post because you know that you are wrong and that you will look like an idiot.

how about because over here in NY we dont argue online. Its easy to hide behind a computer screen and act like a tough guy. Point is, this is meaningless, duffman wants help, so why dont you go find something better to do then to waste his time.

I offered him my advice, you havent. All you have done is criticize him. So why are you really here? To criticize or help? Grow up bro.

Duff, how bout we ignore these two guys, and continue on with the post. I want to see what other people think because we are in the same exact boat.

Alright, so you represent the entire state of NY and I Massachusetts. Your logic is magnificent.

Well, actually, pay closer attention. I was the first person to respond to his post (see first page). Later on I saw your post and you were once again being rude and dismissing someone else's adivice ( This time it was A2Wolves). forget the politics, i am over it. I am aggravated with you, Doogie, that whenever someone feels differently than you, particularly regarding chances, you reject what they say and make their response out to be worthless. That really bugged me and got me upset, okay? Who are you to tell Duff to ignore A2Wolves, he was not saying anything out of line, he was giving his opinion. I would really like and appreciate it if you would respond and explain yourself.

Wilmington, I have nothing wrong with someone making a thread on their chances. I think that's great that you could do that in this forum.

I have a problem with someone making 6 threads on their chances, consistently bumping them, and allowing other's threads that are asking for the first time and NEED the advice, to go to the toilet. ESPECIALLY when the OP dismisses other's advice and gets rude to the people who are giving advice to the OP.
