My majors not offered in my state. is there a grant?

Hello! I am attending a school in South Carolina rather than Tennesse because Tennessee does not offer the major I am wanting. I am losing the state scholarship because of this and there is no way for me to transfer them (I tried). Is there a grant or a scholarship for this situation since my major isnt offered in my state?

Look into the Southern Regional Education Board’s Academic Common Market. If you’re going to a participating school you might be able to pay in-state tuition.

Some schools will offer a reciprocity type tuition discount, or a reduced rate, or in-state for an OOS student of a major is not offerered. Your best bet is to go to the FA office at your current school and see if they cna help.

Are you already in college? I hate to be a johnnny come lately, but if were you or your parents, I would be asking what your major is and couldnt you have been a little more flexible?

What is your major?

Did you check with the Academic Common Market to find a school that would give you instate rates?

If you’re already getting instate rates because of the ACM, then that’s it. There aren’t any extra grants.

It sounds like you’re giving up HOPE. Can’t you do your first two years at a Tenn school and then transfer?

What is this very unique major that no Tenn public has?

More importantly, what is your career goal? There may be another major that will work.

[Southern Regional Education Board](Southern Regional Education Board)

check here for the ACM

What is your major that it is not offered in Tennessee?

You also need to check the rules for the academic common market in your area. It wast impression that you were able to access this as an incoming freshman. Make sure you can get this as a returning student…might not be possible to do so, or if you have to switch majors to qualify.
