My name if this will confuse colleges.

At school I go by the name Logan Baxter-Wiley but it appears on my social security card as Logan Baxter Wiley and it appears as the first name on my SAT and ACT score and transcript. I have already included in my application and resume that my name would appear as Logan Baxter-Wiley on my transcript and scores but I don't know if this will confuse them badly or not. I have already applied to two colleges already and they don't seem to be confused by it but I'm applying at JHU and SIT regular decision so I don't want to confuse them.

What I'm asking for is should I get it changed on my transcript or do you think if I tell the colleges it will be alright?

If they can't figure it out, you may want to reconsider going to the school. :D

Seriously, I expect that they will be able to match the names and that this has happened before. You may want to send an e-mail or note just giving them a heads-up.

This is why they ask for SS numbers and lots of other identifying details. Names may not be precise from one version to another, and, even more commonly, more than one student may have the same name, though I'm pretty sure there aren't too many Logan Baxter(-)Wileys :). But I have had more than one of the same name in the same class, so it is common enough that they will always look at other identifiers.

Thanks for the info if anybody else has anything to say please do so.

My son also has a hyphenated last name. The hyphen is not acknowledged by Social Security. It didn't create any confusion. If you are concerned just contact the admissions office at the schools you are applying to and discuss it with them.
