My name is...CC anon

yes...hi my name is dan and im addicted to cc :(

i need to get off this thing cause ive realized that most of thes epeople dont have a clue what they are talking about!

i just saw a post where a kid has 20 points higher then me on my SAT and asked bout the same school...but had EC's that were nothing clooose to mine, or his other stats.

Yet, the students say he had a very good chance whereas they told me it was a reach!!! I think most of these people just look at SAT's and compare it to the middle 50% posted on the schools websites. I bet they dont know wut middle 50% means...it MEEAAANS that about half of that school scored above and below THAT range...so if u are below that range...dont sell yourself short!!!!

Why do i keep posting here!?!! Its definatly an addiction cause this isnt healthy for any of us...we have enough stress right now

so heres what im gonna do...consider this an AA type thing and just vent and admit to your CC addiction lol

Stress is fun. some of us thrive by it.

also, don't trust any of the people who rate your chances. no one REALLY knows. you're right, most here basically tell you your chances based 90% on SAT scores.

It is fairly wierd, but it is the truth. One person will have a 2100 and there chances will be slight reach or reach with pretty good ECs. Then, the person with the 2300 with fairly weak ECs and suddenly has match next tothe same school? I don't think so.

But, I do have to say that colleges really do weigh the SAT and ACT quite a bit. Having amazing scores ins't a must, but it will give a definite boost. Even with miniscule differences like the difference between a 1560 and a 1600. Even though the difference may be only two or three questions, colleges are still known to accept more of the 1600s. It is rediculous, but that is just the way it is.

You guys underestimate how much SAT means to private schools, especially Ivy League.

I'm under the impression that most on the CC forums feel that it's easier to join clubs and build your EC's than to improve your SAT scores by a few hundred points. That may be the case, but the does not necessarily mean that the SAT is the ultimate basis of which college you can apply to. Also, most are under the impression that in order for colleges to even "consider" you as an applicant, you absolutely MUST be in the top 50 percentile when it comes to SAT scores. They claim that the bottom 50 percent is occupied by URMs, athletes, and legacies. Unless I see or hear this with my very own eyes or ears, it's bologna to me. Though this may be true to a certain extent, this is certainly not the whole picture. Remember, an URM does not necessarily have an SAT that is lower than that 50% mark, same with athletes and legacies. Also, many think that there are a tremendous number of recruited athletes per year, as much as maybe 25% of the class? I don't think so. Lastly, is it not impossible for an URM to have a legacy and be an athlete? That's just my two cents- if anyone has any objections or disagreements with what I should posted, then feel free to post back- let's make this insightful for everyone..
