Thanks @FrozenMaineMom. That’s what I needed to know. I was hoping the reimbursement came early enough so they wouldn’t have to float all that money all semester. They have credit cards too but in my name. I’ll have to get them their own so they will budget themselves. Congrats to your daughter on the extra $2500 as well. I would have guessed that UCF would absorb that but I’m glad they didn’t. Our girls have FL Prepaid for tuition as well which will be giving them an extra ~$3K/semester so if they can’t budget between Benacquisto and that, they have bigger problems. LOL!
When you talk about the extra money and being able to bank part of it for grad school or med school what do you mean? I thought the UCF for a ride or any school that provides a full ride for NMF students covers the tuition, room and board and possibly a small stipend and sometimes some bonus items like a laptop. But you seem to indicate that there is a bigger spending fund that your D has access to from UCF. Please share more. Thank you!
@hope777believe - the finances depend on the program. My DS is at Arizona State. Their NMS covers 100% tuition for 4 years, plus some $$ for research. Many majors at ASU offer accelerated degrees in a 3+1 and 4+1 program. The 3+1 is possible with AP/IB credits. My son should be able to get a MS in CS in 4 years. I seem to recall other schools, Alabama specifically, have a similar set up for NM Scholars. I am not aware of a program that allows you to ‘bank’ funds past your 4 years. That would be a new wrinkle.

@hope777believe I’m not FrozenMaineMom but my D19 got the same offer her D19 did from UCF. Florida schools that are part of Benaquisto program offer full Cost of Attendance (COA) to NMF. So, it covers tuition, fees, a set $ for dorms & meal plans (most UCF kids don’t do the meal plan & dorms vary widely in cost), a set $ for books, travel, etc. The stuff that the U doesn’t charge, they depoait in your account. If you live in a lower cost dorm, not travel too often, but cheaper used books or rentals, and cook most days, you can save the leftovers to the tune of a couple thousand a year.
Combined with the honors program, Luke (the NM Program oversight guy), the Barnes & Noble on the main floor of the Honors dorm (not a cheap one), the money is a nice perk. It is an opportunity that is tough to turn down. It is something you can’t find many other places (outside of Florida).
I heard All florida MS MD programs required to write MCAT and need to score more than 514, Is it true?
