My northwestern sup. is 50 words too long, should i sumbit it anyway?

Hi the max word limit is 300 but i cant shorten my essay to 300 words without removing crucial information. What should i do?

Colleges put word limits for a reason. Reword the information using fewer words; I’m sure its possible.

I agree with Pujiyhgttb3. Don’t exceed the word limit.

To my understanding, NW’s supplement’s 300 word limit is a soft limit. Do note that an unnecessarily long essay may not help you, however.

It’s ALWAYS possible to shorten an essay.

Be careful that you don’t submit an overly long essay to a system that truncates to the exact number of words. Nothing like having the final lines clipped off.

Their website states that their limit is not firm and is more of a guideline.

“The suggested word limit guideline gives you the chance to answer each question in detail, while also challenging you to write in a concise and clear manner.”

Decrease it down to the limit. If they supply a certain limit you don’t want to be disqualified for going over.

I already submitted it but thanks for the responses my essay was about 30 words abov the limit and the deadline was approaching so I just sent it.

Did you apply through common app?

Did they even let you surpass the word limit?

If you can’t follow simple instructions on how many words you can use, that won’t reflect highly on you.

@ctesiphon I applied through common app but it was through a word document so it wasnt cut off, ill call the school just to make sure everything is okay tomorrow
also i’m pretty sure the limit is just a soft limit

Well, in your OP it says there’s a 300 word max. If it was stated as such, it’s a hard limit, not a soft one.

That explains why they let you go through with it.
