My odds at ED Cornell-CAS, UPENN-CAS and Brown

I'm a rising senior. I want to apply to apply early decision either to:

Cornell CAS,
UPENN CAS or
Brown

Other schools I'm considering are:
Boston U,
Boston College
NYU Stern,
UChicago,
Georgetown

I guess my saftey schools are Penn State and Drexel and NorthEastern

GPA: unweighted: 3.8 weighted: 4.3

SAT-I: 700CR, 700M, 710W, composite: 2010.

SAT-II Math 2:730, Chemistry: 750, English: 780

APs: Chemistry= 5 and English= 5, Statistics=4, Psych=4, Macro and Micro Econ=3 each

I’m taking 5 Aps senior year including AP Gov, AP Euro and AP US Hist

Extra-curricular activities include:
1. President of FBLA chapter
2. Secretary Amnesty International
3. Student Government for 3 years
4. Vice President National Honor Society
5. Vice President National Spanish Society
6. Founder and President of a popular club advocating human rights
7. Own a service to help build websites for local small businesses

Awards include:
1. DECA/FBLA (placed in state every year)
2. Volunteer (over 100 hours for a very personal cause)
3. Many-many trophies and medals in state and national wrestling championships
4. several other minor awards and honors

Recommendations should be decent to excellent and my essays will probably be decent

I will probably major in Government, International relations or something in Liberal Arts

Should I ED Cornell, UPENN or Brown? What are my chances at other schools? Please chance me and I'll return the favor. Promise.

Your SAT is the biggest thing that is holding you back. Typically, for the schools that you listed as non-safeties, the minimum threshold for scores is a 2200 or higher on the SAT, or a 33 or higher on the ACT. With that being said, most of the colleges in the upper echelons base admittance off of “character”. That means they want unique individuals, with particular skills, who come across as good people. A lot of this is judged by extracurriculars, and essays. Your extracurriculars tell me that you have skill with FBLA, which relates somewhat to government and international relations. The thing is, everyone else applying to Ivy’s and Ivy levels will have such good extracurriculars, but with better test scores. You cannot have decent essays, nor can you have decent recs. Both essays and recs must be stellar. Having said all of that, based on your current test scores, decent recs, and decent essays:

U Penn (ED): Reach
Cornell (ED): Reach
Brown (ED): Reach
U Chicago: High Reach
Georgetown: Reach
NYU Stern: Low Reach
BC: High Match
BU: High Match

Your chances at these may be sobering at this point, but there are some easy ways that you can improve your chances. Like I said, extracurriculars are the strongest part of your application at this point. You are good on that front; just keep up what you are doing. I’d say get your SAT up to a 2250, or take the ACT and get a 34. You must make your essays and recs stellar; decent just will not cut it for these competitive schools.

If you can do the aforementioned things:

U Penn (ED): Low Reach
Cornell (ED): Low Reach
Brown (ED): Low Reach/ Reach
U Chicago: Reach
Georgetown: Low Reach
NYU Stern: High Match
BC: Match
BU: Match

Chance back?

Just so you know, if your subscores are right, you have a 2110 SAT. Congrats.

Also, if you really seem to want an ivy as your ED choice, I’m pretty sure Cornell, UPenn, and Dartmouth have the highest ED acceptance rates. But if youre not too keen on Dartmouth, I would cross Brown off if you truly want the best chance at acceptance.

Good luck! Chance me back?

Thanks Debator. I agree my SATs are low- might retake in Oct
And I chenced you back!

Thanks ccJunior. Yes, SAT total is 2110- (you cant expect much from someone w/ 700 in M ;)

Okay, if you do in fact have a 2110, you have better chances that what I originally put. It is my mistake for not adding your scores up myself. If you choose not to retake the SAT, but still with stellar recs and essays:

U Penn (ED): Reach/ Low Reach
Cornell (ED): Reach/ Low Reach
Brown (ED): Reach
U Chicago: Reach
Georgetown: Low Reach
NYU Stern: High Match/ Low Reach
BC: High Match
BU: Match/ High Match

Hey Thanks! I will retake anyway…hoping to break 2200.

Anyone out there…Bump!

Are you a URM? I have two friends who were admitted to Cornell (one ED and one RD) who had a 1320 and 1340 respectively on the CR + M SAT. Both were stellar students and had GPAs slightly better than yours. I believe Cornell looks for diversity and disctinction in applicants, so going ED Cornell is your best bets.

BC is match for you as I know students similar to you who were admitted to Carroll, which is more competitive than CAS.

Some other matches I recommend you look at are Lehigh, Villanova, UMiami, Tulane, GWU (great gov/polisci major), UVA (low reach), WFU, University of Michigan and Bucknell.

Regarding safeties, I recommend to BU, UMDCP, Loyola Maryland, Northeastern, PSU, Pitt, Syracuse etc.

Good luck!

Thank you Evcalt7. No I’m not URM or 1st gen OR legacy.
I’ve ruled out some of the schools like U Mich, UMiami, Tulane etc. due to distance from PA. My parents want me to stay within 5ish hour driving distance/train ride from home (Philly area). UChicago is on the list, but most likely I’ll not be allowed to apply :frowning:
And yeah…I hadn’t thought about GWU altho I had Gtown.

bump 10char

Hey all- so I got 2260 on my Oct SAT. Yay!!
Do I stand a better chance now at:
Cornell ILR- I changed my mind,
UPENN - Huntsman Program
Brown
Boston College
NYU Stern- BPE Program
UChicago,
Georgetown
UMich- Ross Program

Congratulations on a fantastic increase on your SAT!

ED Cornell ILR: High match/Low reach
ED Huntsman: Reach (this is one of the most selective dual degree programs in the country)
ED Brown: Reach (it’s a reach for everyone)
Boston College: Match
Stern BPE: Low reach
Chicago: Reach
Georgetown: Low reach
UMich Ross: High match (Note: UMich doesn’t give much financial aid and can be rather expensive/difficult to get in out of state)

[Please Chance Me!](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569454-please-chance-me-will-chance-back.html)

SAT: 2260 (M+CR+W=710+750+800)
GPA: unweighted: 3.8 weighted: 4.3
Do I stand a better chance now at:
Cornell ILR-
UPENN - Huntsman Program
Brown
Boston College
NYU Stern- BPE Program
UChicago,

UMich- Ross Program

Please, Please! What do you all think?
