I have neither outstanding talent nor rewards .. sigh

I think i will be OK with the GPA and test scores

but I really don't feel confident with neither ECs nor service experiences

And in order to out-stand among thousands of great international applicants..oh well..

I'm kinda losing confidence :( .. anyway what do you think my odds are? And any advice regarding what I could do during my junior and senior years?

Put a lot of time into your application and make sure your essays are amazing and show your personality. Don’t write generic essays, write ones that are different so you’ll stand out  Also, schedule your interview early and be enthusiastic/passionate when talking to them and be yourself! It helps a lot :)

Hey, you never know.

My advice to you is to make sure that you’re doing things you have a real interest in – things you love. Please please please don’t do something just because “it will look good on my college application.”

Find your passions and throw yourself into them. Let your personality and your enthusiasm show in your essays and interview.

Be sure to vary your options for college – and I hope you end up where you want to be.

I created an account just to reply to this post. First of all, doing stuff in High School simply because “it looks good on your transcript” is the wrong approach, colleges see right through it. This may or may not apply to you.

Second, all sevens in your Chem, Math, and Physics HL’s? You’ve got to be kitten me. That doesn’t happen buddy. Not saying that you can’t do it though. I think you better take some mocks first. As always, it’s not the content it’s the time.

For getting into MIT, you need to show passion. So what if you have good test scores? Really all that shows is that you can handle the course load at MIT. But what are you going to do with it?

I hate these what are my chances post. Like somehow we are on the board of admissions. There is not a simple algorithm or checklist that they do for admissions. It’s not like they sit there and go through your application, “Yep he’s got a 34 on the ACT, check”. Perhaps I am being ignorant, but I thought an intelligent person like you would have figured that out.

That said, your transcript looks great and you seem to be doing very well, but just remember, we have just as much of an insight to admissions as you do.

My advice to you would be to participate in the ECs you like and work as hard as you can this year.

I don’t say that this to be a downer, but the reality is that last year MIT had 3930 INT applicants and MIT only accepted 147.

So it’s hard to get in as an International student. Very hard.
