This is not a concern at all. WashU is in a lovely, upscale area. There is big-time money, both old and new, in St. Louis and a good chunk of it lives in Clayton.

St. Louis stats are always skewed by the fact that St. Louis (the city) has had fixed boundaries for over 100 years and a shrinking resident population. The poverty pockets and small population base make for misleading stats unless you include the entire metropolitan-statistical area which includes St.Louis County and it’s wealthy suburbs. The County itself used to include the state’s second largest city (Florrisant) but I’ve not seen any recent stats.

WUSTL is in one of the most beautiful and safe areas of any college or U I visited with my daughters. The nice part is that hasn’t changed from when I attended there almost forty years ago. Compare that to other schools in a metropolitan area!

This is laughable. East Saint Louis (across the river from us) is quite the ghetto, but I have walked back from the loop (one of the top 10 streets in America according to Time) at 4 am without even feeling unsafe.
