Why does everyone seem to hate the rich. You can badmouth them and formulate your opinions about whoever you want. But remember one thing: Who do you think donates money to the poor? Have you ever given that a thought. There are many wealthy people out there, with the same mentality as Columbia, drama dad and myself, who are far from “selfish.” Hey redpoint, how much money have you given to the poor?? – since you seem to think everyone in this country who has worked hard to earn their money “owes a few pennies to the poor.”

So now you want the poor to give money to the poor? Shove off and hug a fire, the lot of ya.

The rich are the scum of the earth. That’s the truth. All liars, all taking advantage of the system, and all terrible human beings deep inside. That’s just what being rich does to you.

Wow, KAJ. Funny you are quoting something I never said. I’m not going to go into my personal financial situation on the Internet, and I’m hardly one who hates the rich. I dont like or hate anyone based on their income. On a simultaneous post I’m the one strongly defending why people pay outrageous sums for NYC private schools. What I do believe is that people with money have an ethical obligation to help those less fortunate. “there but For the grace of God, go I.” (I’m not religious, but appreciate the sentiment.) I can’t fathom the selfishness that I have been reading on this thread. And yes, it is selfishness.

Xposted with spel, and can’t say I agree with him/her. Sounds like a ■■■■■. Posts like that muddy the issue and make it difficult to have a real discussion.

Redpoint: I owe you an apology, since you were not the one who made the comment about “throwing a few pennies to the poor.”

Riku92mr posted this on page 3 of this thread:

“If I was rich, I would gladly pay more taxes, simply because being rich means you have excess disposable income, much more than what you need to survive comfortably. So why not throw a few pennies to the public schools who so desperately need it?”

I was actually offended by this post, because I’m worried that Riku92mr fails to notice that the wealthy are usually the people who give to the poor.

In response to SpelLondonbrondon’s post: No, I do not expect those who are truly poor to give money to other people who are poor (that is obviously not possible since being poor means you do not have any excess money to donate to others.) What I do expect is for people, such as Spel, to stop putting the rich down because ALL rich are not “the scum of the earth.” Spel, you must not know any rich people. Do you have a job? Do you earn a salary? Guess where your salary money comes from. Not the government (The government has NO MONEY of its own. All of the money in this country belongs to the people. The government takes our money in the form of tax dollars and redistributes it.) Although I have no idea what kind of job you have, nor is that a concern of mine, I would like to inform you that if there was not some rich CEO out there managing his business, there would be no opportunity for people like you to work for him and earn a salary. That rich CEO is not “the scum of the earth.” He is the one who pays people like YOU. Think about this the next time you decide to make some absurd remark about the wealthy. Maybe you only put the rich down to make your own self feel better. Am I sensing a bit of jealousy? Well, that’s pretty SELFISH if you ask me.

Also posted by Spel:“The rich are the scum of the earth. That’s the truth. All liars, all taking advantage of the system, and all terrible human beings deep inside. That’s just what being rich does to you.”

Hmmm…so you think the rich are the ones taking advantage of the system? That’s a shame, because it’s actually the complete opposite. Why are there people on welfare driving nicer cars than wealthy people? Or people dressed in designer clothes using food stamps? If those people were really that poor, they would use their federal aid to pay for the necessities (food, shelter, the basics), not the extras (expensive cars, designer clothing, etc.) that some middle class and wealthy people can’t even afford, probably because they’re being taxed out of their homes in order to provide for the so-called poor people who are TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SYSTEM.

@KAJ…(post #62)

I’m poor, but I give $5 a week from my paycheck. I barely make enough, but I sacrifice my lunches to donate b/c the charity I donate to is about empowering young girls which I believe in. It’s apart of the company i work with and every year they give you an option if you’d like to donate.
I know adults I work with who make way more than me who do not donate and make a fuss about it.
At my job it’s actually mostly the ones that make less that donate more bc they know what it’s like not having everything.
It’s just what I’ve observed.

Good for you papertiger87. I also donate to those who are less fortunate than I am, as well as some other worthy organizations such as the ASPCA:) I’m glad to hear that you work hard and make selfless sacrifices for the less fortunate. I do however, question your economic status. If you were REALLY “POOR,” then you would not have $5 extra dollars to spare for the needy.

And honestly, how “poor” are you really? It looks like your last post was sent from your iPod touch. I don’t have an iPod touch. (I can’t afford it in such a poor economy right now.) --And I don’t go around telling people I’m poor. Just because I can’t afford an iPod touch (a material item that is completely unnecessary because it is not a basic living necessity), I do not consider myself “poor.” You have the unnecessary item and you DO say you’re poor. That’s not right.

I paid for my iPod with my money. I live at home with my parents. I used to work a lot more than I do now and saved a lot. Also I bought this ipod years ago btw with my work discount. It’s not like I have an iPhone that would cost me $60 a month. This iPod was a one time payment of much less than $199. Anyway I’m focusing more on my academics now so yes my parents are helping me a lot now. It’s not like I can spend freely anymore, but I choose to donate. That’s my choice you can question it all you want.

Also aren’t you 18? I’m older than you. I’ve worked since I was in HS. I didn’t sit on my ass, but having money in the bank doesn’t make me rich. I’m far from it. I don’t make enough in a year to support myself entirely. I’m in college AND working.

KAJ, no need to be attacking paper tiger. There was nothing offensive about his/her post. Papertiger made a good point, and in this day and age people have itouches. Hey, you are complaining that you don’t have one, but you are using some kind of technology to make your post. Maybe you are at the library.

Anyway, you said “Hmmm…so you think the rich are the ones taking advantage of the system? That’s a shame, because it’s actually the complete opposite. Why are there people on welfare driving nicer cars than wealthy people? Or people dressed in designer clothes using food stamps? If those people were really that poor, they would use their federal aid to pay for the necessities (food, shelter, the basics), not the extras (expensive cars, designer clothing, etc.) that some middle class and wealthy people can’t even afford, probably because they’re being taxed out of their homes in order to provide for the so-called poor people who are TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SYSTEM.”

I think you are stereotyping poor people here just like you are claiming some people here are maligning the wealthy. Personally, I like to judge people on their own merits, not clustered as a group based on their income level. You really can’t say all poor people are welfare cheats and thus they do not deserve our tax dollars.

The title of this thread is kinda funny anyway ! I know what he means however .

Oh, lord, KAJ, if you are only 18 I don’t know why I am arguing with you. You haven’t seen enough of the world to know what you are talking about.

I know what you mean, sometimes I really don’t know what to do with those extra 20 dollar bills :/

This is almost disturbing. As a member of society you have a right to contribute to the community. Everyone has to do it, stop crying and don’t give me that I give to the poor people so why should I give the government money to help kids go to college crap. Obviously you’re not giving to the charities for the right reason in the first place because if you truly wanted to help people then you would understand that the money that goes to the public schools and that goes to financial aid helps people out and helps everyone have a better chance. I feel a sense of a superiority complex coming out of some of the posters on here. I’m only in high school but I can still understand the concept of taxes and at the same time also understand that I could be wrong. So I’m not going to act like my view is the only right view. Your view is so one-sided, you need to look at the other opinion and actually try to comprehend it and also put your self in other peoples situations and perspectives.

Do I really have to say anything about this hateful statement. -_- You know who hated rich people, communists. You should have what you earned plain and simple. None of this "spreading the wealth’ crap.

Okay, then use only money you’ve earned for college.

Oh, you haven’t earned a damn thing yourself? Never mind then.

Hey, I actually DOOOOOO!!! work at multiple jobs. I pay for my books, and I’m also helping my parents pay for my tuition. The problem is that you live in this little bubble where you think that the rich should pay for you to go to school. I don’t know you, I don’t know if you work or not, but at least I’m helping my parents out. Maybe if you do the same you could actually help them out to. Again I don’t know if you work or not so I won’t make a blind judgment like you just did.

Having a potty mouth is a trademark of being a conservative. Glenn Beck, that you?

Wow so you took your comment off to hide your stupidity. Okay next !!!

Lemme guess, you aren’t a fan of all these foreign kids and darker skinned folks being in your schools either?
