I got 760 in physics..and if you look at percentile rank chart, the score is about 82%.......I was hoping for an 800, but well, the June test was much much harder than the practice test in the blue book.

I'm a high school junior and had gotten A's in physics B...and I plan to apply to schools like MIT, Caltech, HYPS, etc..

So, should i retake it or not?? If i retake it, I'll have to study a lot over the summer in order to take it in fall...but I'll probably won't have time in the summer because I"ll be interning in a lab under a MIT professor for the whole summer in Audiology/Ears and prepping for other two SAT 2s (Math 2 and Lit)....

Oh gosh....my dad isn't going to be so happy...sobs.

Funny, because you asked this in my thread and I was just about to answer when I saw this.

Your situation and mine is not exactly the same. A 760 is a very good score... The general rule of thumb on this board (for exceptional students such as yourself) is that a 750+ does not warrant a retake. Your internship sounds like an exciting opportunity and is much more worthwhile than studying for a stupid subject test.

Just do well on your other subject tests and, in my opinion, you should be fine. But seeing as I got a 710 on the Physics you may want someone else's advice...

i would be thrilled to have a 760 on a physics test. that is a good score--it does NOT need a re-take! but yeah... this is from someone who got a 660

grr. Bco09..ur mean...torturing a poor girl like me. -_-.

-sighs-..i probably missed like 15 questions or so...grr..i should have gotten some questions...but my stupid, slow, retarded self didn't catch those few questions!!!!! sobs.

haha don't worry. i know for a fact i missed the question with the airplanes flying cuz i mixed up the observer with the object. Does that validate my less than perfect score? sure. but does it make me any less capable in physics? nope. thats why similar scores are comparable for knowledge of the material.

well...a 790 DOES look better than a 760...i'm only 30 points away from you..but really, I probably screwed up on the few questions about E+M, and yeah, i messed up on that question.
really...I'm so hating myself now...I really want to get at least one 800 on standardized test (math 2 and lit coming up this fall)..and so far, I've got 750 USH and 760 Physics...it looks like there's gonna be some curse that i'll get around 750-ish for each of my standardized test score...sobs..

What great scores you all have! Did you take AP Physics?

This June my daughter (who is not planning a math or science major) took the SAT II in Physics because UT will give you credit for two semesters of non-major's Physics classes and their associated labs (PHY 302K, 102M, 302L, 102N) for a score between 600 and 800. SAT II Test Cut Scores for Credit

8 credits closer to graduation for an hour and a half test. :) (They also gave her 3 credits for a college level trig class, Math 305G, for her SAT II Math II score. They are very generous.)
