Nationality :Indian.
Planning to apply for engineering.

Do you need aid?

Yes, I need aidbut that won’t be a deal breaker . Can’t get aid at UCLA anyway.
Cornell has special aid for Indian applicants , and I’m gonna apply ED.
Johns Hopkins says it’s need-blind (hard to believe)

I can’t comment fr Hopkins and UCLA, but for Tata the competition is rather very very keen. I don’t have the idea of your full profile, but according to above your chances are slim. :(

It seems you don’t do much beyond the clssroom.

How do you tell the colleges that you participated in ECs?
I did participate heavily in cultural events and delivered speeches. In fact I was greatly revered for my acting and speaking in school. But I do not have certificates or something to prove that.
Moreover, I am applying ED, so maybe a little better chances?
Not many international students apply ED.

So what if not many students will apply for ED, competition is competition whether earlier or later.

Who told you that not many students will be applying for ED to Cornell? You are undermining Cornell. You won’t understand this now, but TIME will teach you. Just go and apply. You will get to know…

I am not saying students in general. I’m talking about Indian students only. Most of them will probably want to have their options open (everyone hopes of getting in MIT).
So I just hope that ED would be a little less competitive than RD , especially considering TATA scholarship (25 Indian UG students are to be supported). And most of strong Indian students will apply in RD (in order to have wide choices.)
However, I may also apply to Johns Hopkins ED. Is it less or more competitive than Cornell ?
And what’s wrong with my profile ?
My scores aren’t very bad .
But I dunno how to tell about ECs , you didn’t tell me about that.
Just tell me ,is my profile bad enough to be rejected straightaway? I will be applying RD anyway , so why not now?

What???
25 students won’t be selected every year. Total of 25 students will be selected including students at Cornell. For example, if you get into Cornell and your third year is running, you will be awarded the TATA stuff making you one of the 25.

Also, this year only 8 students were selected from India. Four from DPS RKP. one from Kolkata - LMB. other three - donno.

No idea about Hopkins and LA.

Your scores are crossing the bar, but they aren’t great.

just see this link… (it will give you some idea about one of the indian applicants of last year who got Cornell)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/737239-cornell-chances-c-o-2014-international.html

You have to say about your ECs through Common Application (www.commonapp.org - it doesn’t works in google chrome and mozilla firefox.)

I am not sure whether this guy is Tata recipient or not. My second last post - the Cornell Chances Link

Yeah, one more stuff. I can’t tell you whether you will be straightforwardly rejected or not (no one can) as I am also one of the applicants like you, but can tell you that you cannot know whether you will be in or not until and unless you apply. Dream is yours - decision is yours. Work hard, follow your heart and achieve whatever you want to. Best o luck

What if I can elevate my scores to, say 2350.
I will also try to pass KVPY.

What would I say further?
Though KVPY is very prestigious, but only KVPY is not gonna compromise for non-existent ECs…
and don’t focus on SATs much… even if you can get 2300 about (which you already have), you would be fine… SAT is just one of the many components of the application process…

Yeah , I know .
Can’t do much about the ECs. My school was in rural Bihar and you can’t expect these schools to have ECs . But I doubt that the admission officers would know or understand this. Anyway, I will just try to focus on what ECs I have (Drama,Theater and Public speaking). I was actually very good at acting , will try to tell them that.Do they need EC certificates or just telling them would be fine?

Do you have a safety?

Yeah. My colleges are in three tiers.
- Very Low Chance
MIT , Princeton, Yale, Duke,Dartmouth , Cornell (Will apply only if SATs are good.) - Fair chance
Johns Hopkins,Northwestern , Rochester,Wisconsin-Madison, Purdue,University of Washington.
3.Safeties
Texas A & M, Texas At Austin.

okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

They really are safeties, aren’t they. In fact, Purdue is also probably a safety. SATs scores for Purdue are waaaay low than what I can expect to get.
