My progress so far...?

Hello, remember me? If not, long story short, I was the girl who felt her dad had high standards for her and didn't know how to approach her father about it. Also, there was the matter of colleges. Here's the board : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1003509-my-dads-potential.html

I'm here to tell you my progress so far as school goes and to ask your opinion on something. My grades, so far, are basically 4 B+'s and about 3 A-'s. I'm trying really hard to get my straight A's this semester and I believe it's evident in my work. As for colleges go, I went to a college fair and asked certain colleges about my situation as far as grades and senior year goes and I left very hopeful. Some colleges, such as UGA and Auburn, told me that they'll look at my senior year if I apply for regular admissions. Others, like Alabama, say i'm overqualified and that i'm sure to get in. So, my top colleges are: UGA, Valdosta, Kennesaw, West Georgia, and Georgia Tech (in-state, not in order). I'm also thinking about LSU (have to look up more info), but my thoughts or more on UGA. My dad has been helping me with stuff lately as well :)

Now, i've took the SAT twice.
1st time : Critical Reading: 430
Math: 400
Writing: 500 (essay: 8)
Total: 1330

2nd time: Critical Reading: 470
Math: 410
Writing: 500 (essay: 7)
Total: 1380

I want my score to be about an 1800. So, since last Thursday I've been studying everyday from 5-7 hours. I take mini practice tests and the ones I get wrong I either go to my teachers and they help me solve it or I figure it out on my own. I'm also reading 2 books and writing down words I don't know and looking them up. I'm going to take a full on on Saturday. I plan on taking it again on Dec 4, and the ACT Dec 11.

I told my friends what I was doing and they told me it was a waste of time and that I'm setting my standards to high. They say I over-study. My friends got over a 1500 and they didn't study, but everyone's different...I think that if I apply and dedicate myself I can do it. Though I've been getting these minor headaches lately...

Now the question!!!! :P
- Do you think i'm studying too much?
- Do you think it's possible for my scores to dramatically increase?
- What's your opinion?

Thank you for taking time to help me :)

Music lover, glad to hear from you again. Your grades are wonderful, congratulations!

I’m sure your SAT scores can go up, especially if you follow this advice found here.

And for help with the writing, go to

But continue to watch your grammar. Whatever you write anything, read it aloud and you’ll hear the mistakes. *Now, i’ve took the SAT twice. *

Now I have taken the SAT twice lol

I think it’s great that you are working towards your goal and are doing so well in school. With study, you can raise your scores.

Keep up the good work. And make a Plan B…what to do if you can’t get your SAT scores up to where you’d like them. That way you’ve got all the bases covered.

maybe consider an SAT tutor

I’m new to the boards but want to congradulate you on your dedication. Keep up the good work and you’ll do great at any college. I hope you post where you end up at.

My only concern about studying too much would be if your SAT prep kept you from completing your school homeowrk. Since that doesn’t seem to be the case, you are doing fine. I am proud of you for working so hard this year. You are learning not only the material, but about perseverance, dedication, time mangement and about how you like to learn. Keep us updated on the college acceptances!

Do not listen to your friends. Of course, they would rather that you study less so that you all could spend more time together, and so that they can stop feeling so nervous about how they are not studying as much. Ignore them. This is a time in your life when you are 100% allowed to be selfish, and you need to be dedicated to what you need to accomplish your goals.

I’m also glad your dad is getting on board with you! Parents are always proud of their children—but your father must really be proud of your dedication and hard work. What you are doing is giving yourself a wonderful life lesson–this will carry you far toward the successful attainment of your dreams no matter where you start your college career.

I’m far from an expert on this, but you don’t write like someone with those scores. Your writing seems precise, and to the point, and grammaticaly accurate.

In addition to studying, I’d look for ways to put things in my file that I had written.

You might also consider taking the ACT as well. It seems people tend to do better on one or the other. In our house, S did better on SAT, D on ACT. UGA will take either.
