My Progress Thread

Oh, okay. I see your confusion. I’ll provide my explanation, but I’m just going to say that I’m a bit shaky on this grammar topic. I’ll write my explanation when I’m on my computer. I don’t like writing long posts on my phone…

9) The sun has been shining for nearly 5 billion years and is thought that it has sufficient thermonuclear fuel in its core to shine for about another billion.

–

Answers

9) Idiom error. Change “that it has” to “to have.”

He was thought to have good ideas; now we realize that his mind is vacuous.

I realized that you might already know the concept. In that case, it would be a waste of time for me to write a long explanation. Do you know the difference between “will” and “would”? The key word in this particular sentence is would.

NOOOO…I don’t want to see the answers yet… Are you doing the questions in order? So, that I can do them, and then come on here and see the explanations?

What is the difference? Isn’t “will” the simple future tense and “would” in the subjunctive mood?

I only picked the hardest ones from the PDF and I wrote explanations so I could synthesize what I learned. I also hope the explanations help those who don’t understand the particular questions I chose.

“would” hints the usage of past tense.

“will” is the first conditional. (If + present) + (will)
“would” is the second conditional. (If + past) + (would)
There is the third conditional, but I won’t explain that.

This sentence includes the crucial word, “would”. Is there a condition in this sentence?

Examine the rewritten main clause: If any enslaved person (enters/entered) England, he/she (will/would) be set free.

“would” in the main clause must be paired up with “entered” in the conditional clause. In order for “enters” to be correct, the sentence must read:

Therefore, “enters” is incorrect in the original sentence…

That’s what I was looking for :). Thank you so much :).

I suppose I learned that “would” necessitates the use of the past tense :).

Dear diary:

I have only a few things left to wrap up, in order of priority.

1) Work on the essay.
2) Work on writing.
3) Work on math
4) Work on CR
5) Work on vocab

I’m happy to report that this week at school, I have a relatively light workload, so I’ll be sure to cram in A LOT OF SAT practice :D.

Good night,

IceQube

Just dropping by to say: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

5 days guys. We can do it :)!

You’re extremely fortunate… :frowning: It feels like I have more work this week than ever. I’ll take my Friday off to get my work done, so I don’t worry about hw during SAT.

Larry Krieger has published files for the Math, CR, and Writing sections of the SAT. He even has a list of idioms for the writing section of the SAT! If his vocab lists show anything, it is that Larry Krieger is a very prescient author!

^ Wow, thanks!

Jihae invited Neil and I/me to meet her family.

Knowing to use me in that case if useful because it appears that “to meet” could be a verb which modifies Neil and “I.” Will remember.

Ugh I wish I had the time to spend studying for the SAT. I will just have to spend all day Friday. Right now I need go study math but hopefully tomorrow I will have time to write an essay or two because after reading my last essay again, I realized how bad it was and what I need to improve on.

Oh and I am curious: what math are you guys in?

This is a must read for anyone looking to conquer the SAT essay :)!

Guess his score :p.

Do you guys think i should buy “PWN the SAT math Guide”? Math is the worst subject for me on the SAT, even though I have improved tremendously. So tell me what your opinion is regarding the book.

@Ice

lol dude it actually works. On my november essay, I had only one example and filled half a page. I was pressed for time and could not think of any factual examples that fit the prompt. So I thought screw it and made up a fake novel and a fake person who was part of a powerful ancient empire and a fake architect. Worked like a charm.

Only use this if you cant think of anything after a while. Also make up obscure novels and people. Even though you can pull off saying that Lincoln was born in Canada, its risky.

^ What did you get on your essay? A 12?
