My Progress Thread

It’s No Error because “Set in” has no error- it’s in the correct tense with “the novel”.

Same with “is.” The noun “novel” is singular.

“BuT” is the correct conjunction that makes the sentence smooth.

“Runs” is correct because it is consistent with the present tense verbs “set” and “is”

So E

Which part did you think the error was?

A) ‘Set in’ is a correct idiomatic phrase
B) novel is singular, so the verb should be ‘is’
C) I am not completely certain but I believe but about is correct because it needs to parallel not about.
D) Lily is one girl, and therefore runs is the correct form.

I put “runs” because I thought it was supposed to be past tense :.

IceQube/ You’re so close to your goal! Can I ask how you’re preparing for your essay? I really want to write a 12 essay this time (my two previous essay scores were both double digits), but I’m not sure what I’m missing.

I ended up not doing my test just because I wanted to study some more vocab and work on some math; however, I am going to do a few practice sections in a few hours and hopefully that will go well. Congrats on your test IceQube! That is why I hate the math section because if you miss even just 1 or 2 questions it wrecks your score.

Reading 19th and 20th century novels combined with one cr section practice a day made my cr score surge from 600-650 to 720-750.

Iceqube, are you a junior? If so, what did you get on the PSAT?

And about the grammar question: “runs” is correct because it matches the tense of “set in” and “is.” And if “runs” were wrong, then “set in” and “is” would also be wrong, and that’s not possible, because you can’t bubble more than one underlined choice, right?

I guess I just got duped by “1964.” -_-.

I think I had more to write on this essay than I did on the other ones. Also, this time, I spent a greater amount of my time thinking rather than not writing. 25 minutes is really a lot of time to write a good essay. I learned to calm down, think, and write something coherent rather than panic, think for 30 seconds, write someone inane, and realize I have 15 minutes left :.

@IceQube, what’s your score now?

I got a 2280 - 2320 on the October 2009 QAS. What about you :)?

What is QAS?

^Quality Assurance.

what are Quality Assurances and how do you get them?

Hahahahaha IceQube, you’re such a clown… :)

Can you elaborate how you can possibly think 25 minutes is a lot of time?

JefferyJung

Maybe you are writing too long an essay? From what I know and what I have learned, a good four paragraph essay is fine. Intro, 2 examples, Conclusion. Usually people who write a 3 pronged 5 paragraph essay have a hard time finishing

I write four paragraph essays, and I scored double digits on the last two SAT. I just have a hard time writing two full pages. Often, I write less than 1 and 1/2 pages. I’m starting to think my length is hindering me from a 12. I really want a 12 this time. Perhaps I should write bigger, so I can fill up two pages.

I took a Princeton review and got a 2020. And I’m currently working through a 07-08 practice test

And oh my god, that is the score I’ve been dreaming of. CONGRATz! YOU CAN DO IT :D

CR definitely still needs work.

I’ve been getting -3 passages pretty consistently (so basically it all comes down to vocab at that point), but today I happened to miss 7, so that was kind of a buzzkill.

-0 math and -1 writing, though.

Congratulations, and good luck to you as well :).
