if you can come up with another way to compare people from different schools, by all means alert the college board. right now, however, the SAT is the best method

if your school isnt teaching you stuff that u need for the SAT, they need to be restaffed and reorganized. Thats no excuse

im not saying there is another way. im saying that ranks and gpas are better indicators than sats and some schools have better teachers. thats a fact. so that isnt fair. and if you tell me that life isnt fair i know and i dont care because if you really believed that then you would accept that since you are not top ten percent, you lost the opportunity. meet the criterion and you win.

so then why do schools give SAT scores the most weight?

they dont.

i have a post about this in the harvard forum.

Yes They Do!?

they dont! sat measures a period of around 4 or so hours. gpa/rank measure 3-4 years. colleges use gpa/rank first for the most part with rank being more important than gpa. secondary is either ECs or testing scores for the most part. it then works its way down to recs, essays etc. look at sharks post in the harvard forum too and also check out websites of colleges and check out the college search on collegeboard. i dont know ANY colleges that use testing over other gpa/rank.

class ranking defintely puts average ppl at big disadvantage at highly competitive schools..
but there are other things colleges look at:
GPA, SAT, ECs, Awards, Recs, and Hobbies..

So it shouldnt hurt as much as ppl believe it will..

the SAT is a reasoning test, it isnt the schools resposibility to teach to the SAT

it hurts when u cant apply to certain programs because of it.

No, the point of school is to prepare you for the real world, however they think the correct way is. The point of school is not to teach for a test other than the test of life.

It's true; GPA is ranked above test scores for admissions purposes.

"it hurts when u cant apply to certain programs because of it."

even if it does, get over it! if your so great, then you could get an exception. please dont say this again as i am about to start compying and pasting things i have previously said.

u try getting an exception, u make it sound like they just give exceptions away.

i think that deciles should be paid attention to in admissions but not the actual rank. i am 38th but i am less than 1 point over 3 years away from being 25th and less than 2 points away from being in the top 10, so i dont deserve to be penalized for that

deciles and rank are the same thing in my opinion. But yea wut ur saying is wut im mad about.

well then move on to the next program seeing as there are many and stop complaining

You cannot guarantee me that you would be number 1 at some school in the "sticks" because you would have had different opportunities. You would have no AP courses. You wouldn't be as prepared for high school. And your entire life would be different.

You are very arrogant, thinking you deserve something you haven't earned. Those kids succeeded in their environment, you did not (you obviously did, but not to the level you desire).

BTW, I would be number 1 in my class but my school doesn't even rank. Ive taken 13 APs and never gotten a B in high school. I got a 1540 on my SAT and a 35 on my ACT. I should be complaining that it only shows top 10% instead of top 1% but I'm not. Class rank may indeed be overrated (and most colleges look at it this way). But to say you deserve something you dont is complete crap. I am not allowed to apply for Ohio States 7 year med program because Im not a National Merit Semifinalist, but im not complaining. You get what youve earned in life.

PS I feel for whoever has their class rank by alphabetical order. That stinks

yea that is pretty dumb, thats the worst thing ive ever heard of. why wouldnt they just say that you are tied for the same rank
