My Regents Chances?

Hello, I got accepted to UCI’s Campuswide Honors Program as Biological Sciences major and I was wondering what are the chances for me to get UCSD Regents as well.

UC GPA: 4.3
SAT: 1360/1600 D:
AP: Chemistry (Junior), Comp Sci, German, Physics, Calculus AB(Senior)

I know it’s pretty hard to get the regents thing, but the UCI Honors thing makes me have hope for the regents at SD.

Also if I don’t get regents at UCSD should I go to UCI?

Just wondering, did you get regents for UCI or just CHP? Sorry for not being able to answer your question, I’m just curious.

@rednotebook3 I got accepted to CHP only. I’m kind of surprised that I got in! Didn’t even know my stats were above other applicants!

Are you trying to get into med school?(Sorry I just have to assume this because of your major) Because in the hypothetical situation that you do get accepted into UCSD w/o regents and you had to pick between UCI w/ CHP and UCSD, I would personally pick UCI w/ CHP because it allows for priority registration, which would be a huge advantage so you have the classes you want at the times you want with the professors you want and you just don’t have to worry about getting wait listed. There’s also easier access to research opportunities, but like priority registration seems to be a huge advantage.
I am just telling you my logic but I honestly have no advice because I am in the same boat as you! I applied and got into UCI w/ CHP as a chemical engineering major! Can I ask what other schools you applied to and like whats your EFC and whats your dream school??

@rednotebook3 I am aiming towards med school.

Applied to Schools: Berkeley, LA, UCSD, UCI, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Long Beach.

Accepted to : Long Beach, Cal Poly Pomona, UCI.

Is this EFC?: 011126

Dream School (LOL): UCSD (I’m assuming that I won’t be admitted to Berkeley/LA based on my stats)

Ooo nice job on getting into Pomona and Long Beach! I am also aiming for med school and I gave you my reasoning but what do you think you would do?
To be honest, if you did get into like UCB, UCLA, or UCSD would you want to go there? Like personally, UCB has always been my dream school but if I really wanted to go to med school, I probably would not be able to survive even if I could make it in because it is so cutthroat there!

Also if you have high financial need, then there’s always the possibility you can get the chancellors scholarship if not regents (i think, don’t quote me haha)

Yea I really would like to be a Triton! For Berkeley and LA they seem a little too competitive for me so I’m not really sure I’ll attend. Maybe LA since its nearby to where I live.

After talking with my sister who’s at UCI and her friend who I think is in the honors program, I kind of feel a little better. My sister’s friend says the program is useless and many people drop out after the first year, but don’t make that change your decision. I also did a little more research and saw that the program is really humanities heavy, which is something I really don’t like. Those things helped me see that it will be fine giving up the program if I go to UCSD. The only thing I’ll be sad about if I don’t get regents is the Priority Registration.

PS: I was literally freaking out/stressing about whether or not to go to UCI or SD until my sister’s friend gave me some info. Now I’m calm and relaxed!

@jayjay7737 I just replied to you on the other thread but if it makes you feel better many of my premed friends without priority and came in with a decent amount of AP credits are able to get the classes they want (just maybeee not with the BEST professors, but generally not with the worst either). What’s your first choice college? Guessing muir because everyone picks it lol

Also @rednotebook3 not to discourage you but having a lot of friends going to different UCs, I don’t particularly recommend Berk for premed route :frowning: Even though it may have a good biology program, premed at Berkeley isn’t ideal because of the school’s grade deflation and competitiveness. LA and SD are probably the best because of their proximity to a med school (as they are right next door to the campuses) and ample research opportunities. Med schools care more about that and GPA than your undergrad campus.

Just my two cents though but if you’re really passionate about Berkeley and believe you can do super well don’t let me stop you haha.

I have a 4.3 and 1300/1600 sat but didnt get accepted to UCI yet with anything

@orionary With everything so holistic, I wouldn’t take that as a bad sign at all. One of my friends got Regents at Berkeley without anything from UCI. I guess Cal just saw something in him that UCI didn’t. Doesn’t mean that he won’t get in, but it’s a lot more than grades this time around.
By the way, he had a 1200 SAT.
