My rich custodial father is unwilling to pay anything for college. So, can I not include him in CSS?

If I include his monetary-info in the CSS, then I think it’ll present a seriously skewed picture of my actual financial situation. So can I not include his info in the CSS.

Will it work if I don’t put his information?

If he is your custodial parent his information must be included. Why is he refusing to pay anything? There has to be a reason. A parent who can pay but refuses to pay will not get you any aid from a college.

You MUST include the information. If you omit it, there will be serious consequences.

You have to include him. The colleges don’t care about what he is willing to pay, only what he should pay. And, from the wording it looks like he is your custodial father, correct? If that is the case, even the non Profile schools will require his information.

If he is being abusive you could investigate Dependency Override.

If he won’t pay anything, you will have to find a full ride scholarship to attend school. You cannot be picky. How are your stats? Are you a senior or a junior?

Will your father let you live at home and attend community college?

Does your father (mistakenly) believe a student can work his way through college? Some parents do not understand how paying for college works.

You specifically mentioned the CSS which means you’re probably looking at expensive private colleges. Is your father willing to pay for your in-state public university?

Is your father okay with paying something or nothing at all? For some colleges or just one of his choice or none?
Is there a reason? Conditions?
Is he your custodial or non custodial parent?
Was there a college funding agreement in the custody agreement?

Nothing at all.

For no colleges.

Well, he doesn’t want me to leave Banglades, that’s why.

Custodial.

I don’t know

Are you an American citizen who lives in Bangladesh?
Do you have an idea what your father’s income is? What your mother’s income is?
Can you ask your mother wrt to college agreements?
Could you get a change of custody now that you’re older, and go live with your mother for senior year?

I’m a Bangladeshi.

About 115k per year.

About 8k per year.

What are college agreements?

I can’t manage a change of custody. My mom lives in Bangladesh also.

There is very little you can do, besides trying to get into a university that will give you a great deal of financial aid. If you’re among the top students in your country there’s a small chance you might get into one of the highly selective and competitive schools that meet full need. Meantime, get a job and start saving money. Even if you get a significant financial aid package, you will still need to have some of your own money. For application fees, SAT exams, a plane ticket, etc.

Junior.

I haven’t taken the SAT yet. I plan to take it in October.

What should be the stats of a person getting a full-ride like?

Near perfect grades
Near perfect SAT scores
Excellent ECs
And a great deal of luck.

Because there are thousands of international students with perfect grades and perfect SAT scores and excellent ECs competing against you for the same few “full rides”.

And most of the elite colleges, including the Ivy’s, do not give any merit aid. They give need based aid for which you will not qualify with a rich father.

Your parents fill in their own financial information on the CSS.

@TomSrOfBoston, he could qualify for aid at a few need based schools. His father’s income is $115k a year and mother’s $8,000 a year. I know nothing about Bangladesh incomes, but I assume he considers his dad rich.

Will my chances increase if I apply in leeser known colleges, for full-rides?

@CottonTales But his father will pay anything. That is the issue here.

Well, he might fill out the forms, but most probably will be seriously unwilling to pay anything.

Besides, even if I get some aid, will that be enough to meet ALL of my expenses?
