My sad, sad story. --> Incomplete Application :(

so.... apparently people in IL had been receiving their letters on Monday, so I was curious why I hadn't gotten mine yet. I called the office and they put me on hold for like.. 10 mins to find my folder. They finally told me they would call me back when they found it. Twenty minutes later, I get a call back from this dude (I forgot his name.) Here's the conversation:

him: I'm really sorry to have to give you bad news over the phone. [pause] Have you received anything in the mail from us?

me: No.

him: well, on March 3, we sent out this letter to you. Here, I'll read it to you. "We have not received your part of the application. ... please send it in....etc etc"

You see, we have all of your other materials. But we never received your part of the application. We had to consider it incomplete.

me (thinking): WHAT?!?!?! I SENT IN THE COMMON APP 12/18/04!!!!!

me: I sent int he common app!! I never got anything in the mail!! I would have sent it in, had I known!

him: I'm sorry, but we try to prevent this sort of thing from happening. Our application states that we will send you a receipt of confirmation, and that if you don't receive it, that you should call the office. Since we didn't hear anything from you and since we didn't get any returned mail, we had to assume that your application was incomplete.

me: Is there any way that I could send it in now and be considered?

him: No, I'm sorry. The application process something or other has already closed. We have already chosen our class of 2009.

me: ::bawling::

him: I'm sorry... but good luck with your other schools.

sigh

My question is: couldn't they just read over my application now?? It would take what, like... half an hour?! I drove out an hour's way to have a stupid interview, I went to meetings, I kept in contact w/ admissions officers. Pomona was one of my top top choices.

:(

That almost happened to me too...[school] had trouble getting their common apps, and they called me and said that they hadn't received it. When I said that I used the commonapp they just told me to fax it. I'm sorry, though; b/c I know how you feel. Mail takes ages to get to me, so if they'd mailed me the same thing would have happened.... :(

Good luck in your other schools

That's absolutely harrible!! I can't believe they couldn't have at least called you!!! obviously some schools do such ^^^! :(

Wow. That just seems horrible. I'm sorry that it had happened, but I wish you luck with college, whichever one it may be.

oh jeez, that really blows. maybe you should call again and ask to speak to a higher authority. you might get a chance to be put on the waiting list, which is better than nothing at all.

good luck!
