My SAT advice thread (Got my 2400 first try)

Hey!
I just got my scores back and I scored 2400 (first try). I kept on losing those simple points in the PSAT, but made up for it with the SAT.
I'll write a thread on how I got the perfect score.

Math - Just know it. Review collegeboard blue book, and practice ALOT (5 or 6 test). I can't really give advice for math It just comes to me. When you take the test just solve it how you would normally, when you get to those plug in problems go C,E,D,A,B.. trust me it works most of the time.

Critical reading - Here I can give you advice. Start reading. not books.. no not books. haha. Magazines: Times, Businessweek. Newspapers: New York Times, etc. THIS IS KEY. The short selections really prep you for the SAT reading and I believe this helped me the most. I have NEVER read a book for fun in all of highschool and my vocab and writing is amazing from just reading educated magizines and newspapers. When you get this down, practice practice. =) ALSO.. Never second guess your self ever. First instinct all the way. I never checked any of my work and it was all right, I felt SEVERAL URGES to change answers, but I didn't.

Writing - Essay should be fine if you do enough reading and pay attention in english class, although. Memorize the grammer books anything, you should be able to know what is correct grammer by reading and stuff. Anyway also do not second guess yourself in this section too.

I cannot admit that the SAT is easy, especially when you aim for a perfect score, but if you do the work you should be fine =).
GOOD LUCK - HOPE I HELPED!!!

Hey, great advice!!
Btw, for CR, is there a certain section of the NYtimes that we should read b.c nytimes.com has tons of articles and I don’t know where to start.

thanks for the advice! congrats on your 2400 :)

israelisthebest: In the New York Times, I’d suggest:
Opinion columns on the “Op Ed” page
Editorials
Book review section on Sundays
Science section on Tuesdays
Arts section
International news articles
(probably in that order of preference)

Another really good source of short articles at an appropriate level: The Economist (British news and opinion magazine)

maths comes to me but i had a slightly less mark 1390

The New York Times is for babies.

Red The Economist.

Well for those looking for advice… you have to remember that the SAT is an intelligence-based test… this kid is intelligent… most of us cannot relate to him.

Wow congrats on the 2400 (Thats quite a feat).

Haha the SAT can be easy if you work at it, you don’t have to be intelligent! Basically it doesn’t matter what you read, but try to read stuff that you like/interests you. I read the Economist more than the ny times btw ^^.
Bosingwa - you also have to have luck when taking the test, my highest psat score was a 238 because I always screwed up somewhere in writing or math and missed one.
