My SAT makes me average.

I will be trying out for tennis in fall, because I have not played any sports due to lack of transportation. But now, my senior year I will be doing tennis, interact club, high q or debate. I plan on increasing my sat 200-300 points total, with the help of several books and full time commitment.

Overall, I am very dissapointed in my SAT due to my lack of enthusiasm. But will be retaking in October.
Writing: 500
Reading: 510
Math: 540
If my scores are not satisfactory, I will apply regular decision and take SAT for third time.

Any suggestions for me? for schools?

I have two recommendations that atleasttwo amazing teachers will write me.

Just take a lot of practice tests and set up a study schedule and you can do it. I was very disappointed with myself too, but you can't dwell on it too long. All you can do is set yourself up to do better next time, so study your ass off and make sure it happens!

im taking my sat in october.

i hear all these success stories for studying for SAT?

how is it really?

how did you manage to take honor US and AP US at the same time? lol

it was two different classes.
we took AP first, and took honors second semester.

its usually opposite.
but it turns out that second semester AP US history does not finish the necessary material before AP exams.
so they made it first semester.

study tips?

Just get your SAT up and you should be fine.

You say this is ur senior year so u already took pre-calc? If so ur math should be much higher! I would suggest you to improve on that drastically, with enough practice u could probably get a 200 pt increase on that section itself. I was able to do so w. limited time. And start doing lots of practice tests to get into the "SAT Mindset". You will know exactly what the "SAT Answer" to a writing question would be just after u finish reading the question, provided ur practice enough. I go to an IB school so i can relate to the situation a bit,but continue to try hard!!

=[
My seventh grade brother made WAY higher than me in math. . .

why don't you try to get a tutor?

Luckily for you, most of the prep books are tailored for students like you. So buy a prep book and USE it. Concentrate on Writing and Math. CR is much harder to improve supposedly. After learning the basic concepts, then use xiggi's method.

read xiggi's method,and apply it

I don't know many study tips that could help you. Most of the tips are for getting from a 2000+ to the 2250+ level. To improve from an average score, you have to just practice and study as much as you can. You are probably going to have buy as many books as you can to practice. As meadow said, a tutor would be good.

When you take practice tests, make sure you go back over them and see what you get wrong, and more importantly why you got them wrong. Make sure you understand the mistakes and learn from them.

At first you should take the tests slowly. Don't time yourself and go one section at a time. You may want to do one type of section a day, like english one day and math the next.

Most people say to use the official tests from CB, but I think you should start with the other books at first. They are fairly accurate for the 1500-2000 range. The errors in those books only tend to affect the higher level scores. Save the CB tests for when you actually want to get an accurate measurement of where you stand. There are only so many of those tests.

Other than that, all I can say is study as much as you can and practice at least a few times a week, preferably daily.

No chance at UVA or Duke.

So daily study is my only way. I tried the princeton review tests
and they give off scores, but definitely good practice.

You have nothing to prove that you are dedicated to a certain activity or hobby. It seems as if you joined clubs for the sake of it being on your College Application.

Yea I was dedicated to my family's business, I did homework, then I worked. Joined clubs when my parents had time to drive me...

But this is about improving my SAT... skills to acquire and if it is still gonna make me average to schools.

i started off with
M 600
W 410
CR 420
= 1430
then i took a prep class, which is kinda useless, T_T, i memorized tons like vocabs, 2k~ ish
i went through tons of prep books, barrons, kaplans, and princeton rev.
then i went up to 1800ish.
M 710, W 540, CR 550.
then i discovered CC, found lots of tips, xiggi's method.
during the summer, the past 2 months,i did BB,, online course, i reviewed every single question carefully after i did the sections.

i feel inadequate in my writing MC, so i went over BB's writing again, and reading, i did 2x CR and W of bb.

now im in the 2000-2100s range.
tons of hard work, i worked hard for it.
i hope u can succeed too.
find hte right method and u'll go far

Thank you.
Just needed a success story like yours.

What do you think you were doing wrong before? That you had to change?

anyone else?
