My SAT mess

This is my first time I took the new SAT and got
CR 760, Math 690 Writing 660.
(Only other time was in Jan 05 CR 760, Math 680)

Will the low writing score reflect badly on my scholarship chances? I am applying to selective schools like Reed and I am asking for scholarships as well. I should have studied harder(:
I feel like I have done so bad. All of you CCers totally cut the 2200 line. If everyone did so well, will I stand a chance for scholarships and all?
And can I send my Jan SAT score to the colleges later even after I sent in my applications? I have to retake in Jan now but it seems a hopeless cause since colleges have already passed the deadlines.

I swear, some of these questions make me so bitter.

No, most schools ignore the writing section completely.

And yes, you can send after you send your applications, check CB for details on your schools though to make sure it's not too late.

I'm not so sure that "most schools ignore the writing section completely"--there seems to be a lot of variation in how it's looked at. Since it's new some colleges don't look at it. Some colleges weigh it less heavily that the other sections. Some give it equal weight. (Unfortunately both my daughter's schools don't consider the writing section and it's her highest subscore.) If you want to know how schools regard the writing section your best bet is to ask them directly.

Here's Reed's take on the new SAT writing section--good news for you.

Thanks guys. It is just my family situation is crappy and I can only depend on scholarships/aids to put me through college so I was really counting on the SAT to give me a leg up. I am also applying to Northwestern but looking at my scores right now (:

Your score is almost identical to my daughter's, except her W score was 20-30 points lower than yours even with an 11 on the essay. We'll see soon enough if that hurts her, even though her schools say they are still studying the Writing section. She also has very strong SATII scores so that will hopefully balance things out.
