So I got my scores back today and they are absolutely horrible :(
I got a 1750 and last time in December I got a 1710. I really don't really know what I'm doing wrong. And on my practice tests I'm scoring in the 2100s.
Any advice?

Hey, at lest your scores increased.
Are you taking your tests under timed condition? No dictionary, no notes? If so, try setting the timer to five minutes less than the given time and practicing. Also, your scores are higher than the average- yes, not good enough to get into an Ivy- but good enough to get into a state college.

There is a lot of great information on these forums on “quality” preparation vs. quantity kill-and-drill, such as xiggi’s math prep. There was also another thread here on great strategies for the reading section - check them out!

Your increase is the average boost that one should expect. Try taking a spring/summer long SAT review course. My opinion is that CW should be the easiest to improve as long as you can write a cogent sentence, which your post proves that you can. Math, if your willing to study, is probably your next big increase since a good score can be had with basic math and gemoetry skills. CR is likely the hardest gain since reading skills are a bit of a God given gift and can’t be memorized like math or writing. Study hard and GL.

Same problem here. Just try to take more prep classes. What I found to help a lot is the internet. I raised my math scores dramatically by just sitting at my computer and watching youtube videos of people going through the math section.

What was the breakdown of your scores?
How were your nerves on test day?
Did you get enough sleep the night before?
What practice tests have you been using?

My breakdown:
CR 570
M 620
W 560 (8 essay)

The books that I used were BB and Kaplan. I’ve done a ton of practice tests and I felt good about the test in Jan, but obviously the score doesn’t match that.
What did u guys do to prep for the SAT and how were ur scores?

Thanks everyone for the great advice! Hopefully the next time around in March will turn out drastically better. I’m hoping to aim for 2100-2200. Crossing my fingers.

And yes, I have been trying to do the practice tests in a testing environment without any aids. If that helps at all.

Not sure what would account for such a difference between practice tests and the actual test except stress/nerves. For every mistake you make on a practice test, analyze it and try to learn from it. Good luck!

I’d study DH for CR. Silverturtle’s Grammar guide for writing - that’s what I did, and I got a 700 in writing. I have never been good at math, but I managed to get a 650. I know I’m capable of getting 700 next time around. What helped me was practice and not being careless. I truly believe that carelessness was what costed me my 700 this Jan. :(

I made a huge jump from a 139 PSAT last year to a 1960 this Jan. I’m reaching for 2000+ for the May exam. Improvement is definitely possible!

Good luck.

What grade are you in?

I’m a junior btw.
