I'm going to sound like a whiny brat but i really don't know what to make of my SAT score. Is a 1980 ok, good, really good, amazing? I really don't have any clue. So just tell me what category it would fall in and I'll be good.
Thanx :)

4 out of 5

It a really good score!

ummmm its decent, and by that i mean above average

but it really depends on what colleges you are looking for

the average is only like 1500 something. but the majority of CCers are in the 2200 (at least) to 2400 range. Most of the people on CC are insanely above average

Depends on where you want to apply. :)

look at your percentiles by section

Yes, a 1980 is a really great score. It shows you got around a 600-650+ on each section, which is definitely impressive.

Agree, it is all relative to where you want to go.

A 1980 will be perceived differently on this forum than in the generic college “world”.

Depends what types of colleges you’re looking toward applying to.

If you’re looking at average or fairly good tiered colleges, 1980 is a great score.

If you’re looking at highly competitive colleges or Ivies, then 1980 is a below average score. But it is still high enough for you to be considered as a competitive applicant given that the rest of your application is good. (I got in Penn with a 1990, and I know friends who got in Penn with low 1800s.)

If you’re comparing to the national average, a 1980 is considerably above average - the national average being somewhere around 1500.

Overall, 1980 is a good score. It definitely isn’t bad. But if you’re looking toward getting into highly competitive colleges, then it’s recommended that you probably consider practicing & retaking the SAT again to get 2100+.

^ Congrats on getting into Penn with your SAT score (as well as your friends). If you don’t mind me asking, but what other hooks and strengths did you have that helped get you in?
