Hi, ive got a question for ya. I am a senior with a rougly 3.4 gpa I had a few c's freshmen year. After that I got nothing less than a B (no b-'s) and I always got more a's then b's. my 1st choice is Columbia, 2nd Westpoint military academy, 3rd U of Michigan, 4th American college. I want to major in something like, literature, Journalism, History, Economics, Politics (in ascending order) I plan on a double major. My question is does this sound realistic w/ my GPA... Note my schedule and AP test scores...
Freshmen Year... Basic stuff A few C's
Sophmore Year... Basic stuff all As and Bs
Junior Years...Notable stuff is
AP Psychology AP test is 4
AP European History AP test is 5
AP US history AP test is 5
Honors English and Composition
Senior Year...Notable stuff is
AP english AP test is 4
AP Economics AP test (Micro 5 Macro 5)
AP governemt AP test was 4
AP music theory AP test not taken
Honors Humanities
I have also been president of a Make a difference orginization for 2 years and Secretary of the model UN for 1 and Vice President of the model UN for 1
so what do you think is Columbia realistic?

If you are a senior, how do you already have your senior-year AP scores? The tests aren't until May...

I took the equivalent of the AP tests administered for the class. My score was determined the same way (basically a practice test of the same material and difficulty) and those were the scores i got. MY teacher also personally told me that the grading was slightly more difficult for the practice test so he told me I was very qualified. The scores for junior year are acurate, the scores for senior year are theoretical (if i got these scores) hopefully that explains things

No, Columbia is not realistic.

You know it might possibly help if you explained your statement I respect the fact you think it is not realistic but I might benefit from an explanation as of why, I assume grades is the reason you said this... I am sure you figured this out but i would just like to point out that the Gpa is unweighted...
Thanks though

Actually, because of your upward trend in GPA (assuming?...), you're not out of the running. Also, WHY DO YOU NOT HAVE ANY MATH CLASSES? Colleges don't like to see people not take Calculus. Also, ur SAT Is and IIs?...

Sorry, you're new and deserve an explanation. Indeed it is grades. A 3.4, even from the toughest schools in the Country, would make Columbia pretty much impossible unless you had a serious hook like being a major athletic recruit. You don't tmnetion SATs, but even a 2400 would not undo several Bs and Cs. Schools far easier than Colubia often reject candidates with a single C. I'm sure that's shocking to many.

Ivy league schools, of which Columbia is the 4th hardest to get into, don't even usually except a couple of Bs unless they are from Exeter or a like school.

With decent SATs, Michigan and American are not too hard.

This is embarassing to say but, i have not yet taken the sat, I know but I got a 34 on my ACT my counselor says since i live in MI the ACT is all i need... what do you think about this? Um SAT 2s to be honest i don't know much about them ive some, but my counselor says i should focus on the AP tests. I am something like an AP scholar w/ honors. Math classes are a sad story. I will have taken Trig. Geom. ALg 1 and ALG 2 but unfortunately i was placed in a lower math class freshmen year (accidentally by staff) and so I won't even be taking pre-calc let alone Calc. Maybe i should take something at the local community college, do you reccomend? Columbia i know is a shot for me but what about the other ones. I think ive got a great shot at USMA (maxed out physical test). I forgot to mention I have been varsity pole vaulter my junior and senior year w/ team captain senior year. ALso, any colleges you would reccomend for my selected type majors? Thanks for the advice. Also did i say 3.4 I meant 3.6 but i still stand by the fact that i got a few cs freshmen year. Also yes it was an upward trend. 3.3 sophmore year, 3.8 junior year, and a 4.0 senior year (so far)

Your SAT is good. With that an a 3.6, you should get into UMich (apply NOW) and American. I can't comment on the military academy.

For great journalism, Syracuse would be a match and Missouri probably a safety.

Good luck.

So you think Columbia is stilla no go? If so what could I have done better? Also, should i consider transfer later on? Anyone else? Thanks!
