My school doesn't rank and no longer gives out GPAs

Thing is, I'm rank 1 (out of 16, but hey, that's a rank).
and my GPA was 3.85-ish, as of grades 9 and 10 (still rank 1 back then), with an upward trend.

Then my school, just for fun they thought, changed the grading system to that of the IB, out of 7, 7 being the best and 1 being the worst. Again, I've been rank 1 since junior year, ending last year with a 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7 (yes, you guessed it! my teachers are strict graders, but I'm still rank 1!)

**So my question is, even though my counselor says our school does not rank, should I include that I'm rank 1 when I apply?/b.

Bump..lol..

My friend actually printed off Georgia Tech’s requirements. It said that our school needed to hire someone to convert our grades into a GPA and wanted a %range for ranking. He was “shocked” and told us if we couldn’t write N/A under the GPA part, we’d just have to estimate..

I think it would be appropriate for your GC to mention your top ranking in his/her letter. But don’t obsess over it. If you have high test scores to go with your good GPA, and reasonable ECs, you should be in at colleges like USC.

No, you should not write your rank if your school does not rank. If you go through a semester, unless you know everyone else’s grades, you cannot be certain that you are still #1. (And out of a class of 16, it won’t matter anyway. The sample is too small.)

Many high schools do not rank. My d’s doesn’t, and it still sent kids to all the Ivies and other top schools.

The schools that don’t report rank are over represented in top colleges. So it really isn’t a big deal that your school doesn’t report rank. I’d worry A LOT more about your test scores considering what I’ve seen.

I think you can convert the IB scores to GPA…

Rank isn’t important if your school doesn’t do it…my school doesn’t rank either, and I really don’t think no rank will hurt your apps.

Okay.

Woo I like stalkers :)
