There's a scholarship at one of the schools I'm applying to--you have to be in the top 1% of your class and have a min. SAT score. My SAT score meets the requirement but the thing is...my shcool doesn't rank or even give deciles.

On the school profile though they list the levels of GPA's and how many students have above a certain level, so the college will know that I'm at least one of the top 12 students out of a class of about 230...but they won't know what my rank is exactly...would they still consider me for this scholarship?

Specifically, you would need to ask. Generally, yes. Many schools are not ranking these days since it hurts more students than it helps at the most select colleges where that number can make the most difference. Most of the schools where my sons went do not rank, or even provide a usable gpa, and it did not appear it hurt them at all. In fact, it was to oldest son's benefit.

Yes you should ask. My D goes to a science/math school that does not rank or do a GPA. There are a couple of scholarships (college related) and also honors colleges she is looking at that require one or both. I asked and they say for students from her school they waive the requirement. But they are in State Universities that know how her school works and how difficult it is. I have often wondered what the situation would be if she were going further away to colleges that are less familiar with her school. So ask - it could relieve your mind or let you know what you need to do if they don't waive the requirement. Good luck.

My D also attended a high school that does not rank. It has been my experience that even at schools that do not rank, GC will rank confidentially for scholarship/admissions purposes.

good luck
