My school doesn't rank...how are colleges gonna look at this

There's a scholarship at one of the schools I'm applying to--you have to be in the top 1% of your class and have a min. SAT score. My SAT score meets the requirement but the thing is...my shcool doesn't rank or even give deciles.

On the school profile though they list the levels of GPA's and how many students have above a certain level, so the college will know that I'm at least one of the top 12 students out of a class of about 230...but they won't know what my rank is exactly...would they still consider me for this scholarship?

Your guidance counsellor will have to write a nice letter explaining the situation to the college and tell them where you fall.

with close to 50% of high schools not ranking, this is not unusal.

My D also attended a high school that does not rank. It has been my experience that even at schools that do not rank, GC will rank confidentially for scholarship/admissions purposes.

good luck

i called the school and i was put on hold for about half an hour before i finally gave up...ugh. maybe i'll call back tmrw

I have a similar situation... my public school doesn't rank, for fear that students with competing GPAs would stab each other (lol.. it's quite competitive).

My GC told me that they include class size, highest GPA and average GPA, so the adcom can somewhat estimate.
