Hey everyone, I found out that my school doesn't weight gpa or rank classes (I'm a current sophomore).
So are my chances screwed? I have a 3.7 unweighted gpa with 8+ AP's, and 5 honors classes.
I heard the number one way to make up for a not so great gpa was to report class rank, but what do I do if even THAT isn't done by my school??

Idk if it helps, but I want to go to UMich, instate.

I agree. There are plenty of things to worry about when you’re applying to college, but this shouldn’t be one of them.

Remember, although you have never applied to UMich before (or to any college or university), they evaluate applicants’ records all the time. There’s nothing your school (a Michigan school, no less) can do that they can’t handle.

Even if your school doesn’t rank, your GC (on your LOR) will need to check off if you are top 1%, 5%, 10% of your class and if you took the most rigorous courses. Have that discussion with your GC end of your junior year.

Find out from your school counselors if students with stats like yours (GPA and SAT/ACT) are being admitted to UMich.

You should also take a look at your school’s profile. This is something that your high school sends out with every application so that colleges can evaluate your grades and courses in the context of your school. A good profile will explain how GPA and rank are calculated. It will also list the number of AP and honors courses, and the number of students taking AP/IB tests.
