LOLZ sweet deal. Finally some real classes.

you kid, i hope?

oo that's nice. don't have to stress over those crazy tests.

Nope. I kid you not.

Yesterday, a faculty member told me that we are getting rid of AP classes.

Why?

Because college board wants to come into your school and basically own it. And Phillips Exeter is like, umm *** no. We're one of the oldest schools and best schools in the country, PSH we don't need YOU.

and college board got pwned.

thats bad, right?
U now can't get College credits.

A lot of prep schools are doing this. The classes just lose the AP label, but students can still take the relevant exams if they so desire.

Most colleges are getting rid of the college credit crap.

that would suck

that totally suchs for you. Now you will have to pay 2 million dollars to go to college!

Unfortunately with NCLB alot of school districts are dumbing down to make sure the lower end students pass. The victim have been higher level math and advanced classes.

I would be very upset as a parent if my kid's school was doing away with AP level classes. They are currency for college. Don't kid yourselves with Colleges don't consider them. They do.

Remember you present "yourself" to a prospective school. 4's and 5's on the AP exam mean you can do the work and are a good candiate for merit awards.

Actually Exeter has courses that far exceed the level of AP and doesn't need AP. It would depend on the quality of your HS whether one cared about AP. There isn't one singular yes or no on this discussion. Well the singluar NO Exeter doesn't need APs that is definite.

Did you hear him? He said he goes to Phillips Exeter. Colleges dont need the AP label to know his classes are amongst the most rigorous available, AP or not, anywhere. He can still take the AP exam at the end to get credit.

Edit: Hazmat beat me.

No. IT doesn't suck. It makes more sense that the school shouldn't teach to a stupid test.

Also, Philly Ex roles that way. AP Classes at any other school are probably just as hard as our "normal" classes here. I came into Exeter already taken the AP Chem and getting a 4 on it. My fellow 10th graders this year taking chem have gotten a much harder load than I did when I took it at my old school. Exeter doens't need AP Classes.

AP = remedial @ Exeter (or many private schools, for that matter)
I am surprised that Exeter would even have non-calculus courses.

Exeter provides the full range of courses in math and students enter Exeter at each level. Some students don't focus on math and thus to be surprised is to not understand that Exeter serves kids from every possible background and level of preparation.

Well, if money's not an issue for you guys(parents actually) .. no problem.

Am I going out on a limb to think that Philly Exeter is a private school?

It almost sounds like you realy don't need anything? Life is pretty well set.

"Exeter doens't need AP Classes."

"Badges? We don't need no stinkin Badges."

"Also, Philly Ex roles that way"

Isn't it "rolls"?

Exeter is a private school.

Different world. Different needs. AP classes help create merit awards and reduce credit hours needed to graduate. They help a family finanically with the cost of college.

My guess would be that Exeter students and families are not of need for such support. Full tuition price isn't an issue.

Locally, we have Lakeside HS (Bill Gates), Tuition is four times greater for Lakeside HS than the University of Washington. Tuition usually goes down for most Lakeside families when their kids graduate.

What does Exeter cost?
