...because I filed the CSS Profile late. My whole situation was that I saw the February 15th deadline and since they asked for 2010 tax information I assumed I would have to do it in 2011.

I just discovered not too long ago that it's just a bunch of estimates. The school offered my 5500 under a Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan. What I need is institutional need based money! I wrote a letter to the financial aid office and so did my guidance counselor for misinforming me about not completing the CSS Profile until 2011. Is there anything I can do at this point?

btw I was just accepted in December through ED

American refused to reconsider even after the appeal? If so, I think what you should do is move on to greener pastures and fall in love with a school that will love you back!

Easier said than done.

You might consider deferring for a year. The problem, however, is that American doesn’t meet need, so you won’t know if they’ll meet enough of yours for you to attend until you get an actual package.

I’m sorry to say this but it was your responsibility to adhere to the deadlines for the financial aid for ED students. In addition, as noted, AU does NOT guarantee to meet full need for accepted students anyway.

If they have said no to any kind of appeal, it’s time to decline their ED acceptance and move on.

What is your FAFSA EFC estimate? Do you know?

If not, try this… [FinAid | Calculators | QuickEFC](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Quick EFC - Finaid)

I remember you from your earlier thread. Your parents may earn too much for much aid anyway. So, submitting CSS Profile on time may not have made the difference that it sounds like you need.

I agree with others that you probably need to move on. And if I remember correctly, your dad is self-employed and your mom works as well…if so, you need to find out how much they will pay. You may find that many schools will expect a high contribution from your parents…maybe higher than what they’re willing to pay.

Just to give you a rough estimate…if your parents earn about $120k and there are 4 in your family and only 1 child in college, your FAFSA EFC is going to be about $25k (rough estimate).

So, for a school like AU…if you had submitted CSS Profile on time, you may have not gotten as much institutional aid as you wanted/expected anyway.

Ok, I get it. I need to move on.

^^^

Glad to hear that…but please…do yourself a favor…find out how much your parents will pay. Your parents will likely have a highish EFC. If they won’t pay it, that’s going to be an issue at future schools.

So, if you don’t know how much your parents will pay, ask.

Best wishes for you.
