Depends... are you rich? If not, you have a good shot with the URM status with those stats.

hmmm not sure. your sats are really low. for princeotn that is

not sure if you'll get in, but my stats are quite similar (at least until i retake sats in december)

let me know if you get in though :)
goodluck

umm....1850, top 30%, weak ec's......i mean, urm status will, but i dont know if it will compensate for all of that....there are probably many african-americans with better stats than that....plus, you come from an area where there are probably many applicants (im guessing your'e from the philly area)

Will Princeton see 1850 as 1230 if you convert it to 1600 scale or as 1180 if you combine math and verbal?

Either way, I don't think you'll have a shot unless you have a major hook that is not URM status. I'm sorry. Face it. There are other applicants with better stats.

i think what hopeforfuture means, you'll need to compound your urm status edge by convincing the adcom you live on the street or something....that's the best way to excuse poor sat scores....that, or if you're incredibly rich and donate millions

I'm taking that "very competitive school" means it's not exactly a poor inner city school, but if your GC was willing to endorse your application, it must at least mean that s/he has some faith in you -- perhaps she has an excellent impression of your personality, or some other intangible. I only say this because at my school, the GCs and teachers will refuse to write the rec for you if they don't think you have a shot.

Also, as a sidenote, NYLF is expensive to attend (and a ripoff) -- going to one would make you look privileged or spoiled even if you weren't.

Your class rank is very low. If your low rank is due to being in a competitive school, your SAT II scores should show that you'd be ranked much higher in a less competitive school. Your Bio and Hist scores don't do that.

No chance. Im not sure how you can get all 4's on AP tests, which shows great promise, yet do so poorly on standardized tests. The 530 verbal is what really hurts. If your essays are outstanding then you have a small chance. Your combined SAT 1180 is not even good enough if you were recruited for a sport and the 1850 in about 250-300 points lower than the average. There are many other African American candidates who have much better stats

Studathlete, you've said some pretty harsh and arrogant things on this message board, BUT that one is extremely honest and realistic. You ain't that bad after all, my man.

StudAthlete, I'm a solid example of a good AP tester by VERY poor SAT tester (3 4s and 5 in tough AP subjects and only a combined 1360 on SAT I)

C'mon, theres a big difference between 1180 and 1360. I wouldn't call 1360 a bad score at all. On the posts last year there were tons of kids who got deferred with 1500's and many who were accepted with 1400. So, great test scores can not make an application while horrible ones can break one.

why do did you post this topic. I feel sorry that there are so many people just waiting to tell you that you are stupid, when you might just be a bad test taker. Anyway, if you applied early it doesnt really matter what people tell you know, so relax until mid December and enjoy life.

There's a difference between being a bad test taker and not being qualified for an Ivy League school. AP tests are significantly more difficult than SAT2 and she did great on those, yet not so great on SAT2. I still dont see how at her academic level she could score an 1180. She will be deferred if not rejected and I recommend she study up and take both the december and january SAT1 again.

yeah being a bad test taker is a bs excuse for having bad test scores. with those scores u have about a 15% chance of getting in

surfed_pipeline, 15% is much higher than average applicant's chance (10%).

confused, i think you will get either accepted or deferred because of diversity you will bring to the campus. i understand why you got those test scores and low rank (i went to your old posts- im little too nosy). good luck.

Let's look at this honestly. Do you deserve to get in? Truthfully, no. Your SATs are extremely low for Princeton, even if you were a minority legacy recruited athelete. And they weren't flunks because your SAT IIs were just as bad. You never cracked 700 once.

Plus, the fact that you are a minority shouldn't help you because you went to a well-off school, and I find it quite amusing that you are basing your entire chances off of your race, exploiting it when it really shouldn't be a factor at all.

Furthermore, your rank only confirms that you will not get into Princeton. 95+% of Princeton students were in the top tenth of their class. You are not. You are not even in the second decile, but in the third. Probably less than 1% of Princeton students are in the third decile, and with your SAT scores, you certainly don't rise above any competition.

I'm sorry, but everyone else is sugar-coating it. You honestly stand about a .05% chance at being excepted, and that is only because of your race. I'm sure you will find a school you will be happy at, but we all can be certain that school will not be Princeton.

15% for URM is high? i agree with ^^^

Though desertman has only 4 posts and I don't know him at all, I have no choice but to agree with him. Unless you have an extremely alluringhook, there are many other applicants from the pool, or of your race, for that matter, who will have much better qualifications.
If you are able to show that you are very concentrated on extracurriculars, causing the below-par academic performance, you may stand a better chance of admission. However, I do not see evidence of such committment in the list you provided. Good luck in your search for colleges. As for zackalacka's statement on your extracurricular activities, that means I'm probably in a bit of trouble as well-you probably have more than I do.
