my sister isn't enrolled anymore!

When I was applying to college, my sister was enrolled at another institution. I reported that on my applications and everything was fine. Unfortunately, my sister has had to disenroll due to money issues. My question is how badly will this affect my financial aid? I know that my financial aid will be reduced, but I’m worried I won’t be able to afford college and it’s already too late to go anywhere else.

Not enough information.

Boston University and January abroad in London?

What is your exact financial aid package?

What were your parents going to pay for your sister? Can they apply that money to YOUR costs?

yeah I’m in the january boston london program. my tentative award is around $29000 a semester. My parents aren’t really gonna help with our education though unless we REALLY need the money. They see college as our personal investments for our future. So no my parents can’t apply that money to my costs. I’m just wondering how significant is the financial aid change if a sibling disenrolled.

Boston University does not meet full need…so really, there is no way to know what will happen in your situation. It sounds like you got a large need based award, however. That being the case, it is possible that your family contribution could more than double if your sister is no longer a college student.

You should run the net price calculator on the college site. Use the accurate financial information, and only one student in college. See what you get for a net cost.

that is practically a free ride…nearly $60k per year.

What was your EFC? It sounds like it was low.

Was any of your award a merit award?

As thumper says…run the NPC again and put only one in college and see what the result is.
