First off my goal is to go and work for one of the big i-banking firms and get accepted to a top 15 MBA program.

I am Currently a sophomore at the Mays business school at Texas A&M.I applied to get into Mccombs recently and did not get in. However, I got accepted to the liberal arts school.

Is it easier to get into Mccombs internally?

Would graduating from texas with an economics degree give me the same/more opportunities then graduating from Mays with a finance degree?

3.Would it be wiser to stay at texas A&M, or take a chance with texas?

You go to UT you’re junior year as a liberal arts major (You have to complete like 24 credit hours at UT before you can apply to transfer internally)

So your only shot would be to complete a year at UT then senior year apply as an internal transfer, but since you’re applying so late into your college career you might have to do a 5th year at UT to graduate from McCombs

My advice … I work in banking, BTW, is to intern at one of the banks you want to work for. What you need is a way to get that intern job. I’ll tell you there are plenty of Aggies in the banking world. You should be able to get internship interviews if your grades are decent - ask your professors and advisors for help.

If you get an internship for yourself and do a great job while there, you will have a better chance at getting a job offer when you graduate. Best wishes. Right now, we are pretty much interested in only internal hires.

Banking is tough to get into. Be ready to start at the bottom.

Did you apply to McCombs for the Fall of 2011? What were your stats? Did you completed the indicator courses? I applied to McCombs as a transfer as well, and I didn’t know decisions for Business were already coming out.

I agree with Eaglemom. A&M is a very reputable school (especially in Texas) and getting experience plays a major role in getting into the MBA school of your choice. The Aggie network is phenomenal as well. If you really want to go to McCombs, I say make good grades at A&M and do your MBA at UT.
